What are the steps you take specific to your safety?

Do you keep your doors locked at all times at home?

Do you have additional security on your doors (3/4” long screws/inside lock)

Do you keep your curtains open during the day?

Do you have a sliding glass door and is it secure?

Do you have an exit strategy?

Do you open the garage door in the morning before your in your car?

Do you leave exit space between you and the vehicle in front of you?

Do you maintain a safe distance when talking with strangers?

Do you turn your back to people when you take a call or do a task?

Do you have a self defense product ready if you need it?

When was the last time you trained to keep yourself safe in a confrontation?

Slide19

A STUDY OF THE

PRE-ATTACK BEHAVIORS OF ACTIVE SHOOTERS

IN THE UNITED STATES

Slide20

Key Findings of

Study

1. The

63

active shooters examined

in this study

did not appear to be uniform

in any way such that they could be readily identified prior to attacking

based on demographics alone

.

2. Active shooters take

time to plan

and

prepare

for the attack, with

77%

of the subjects spending a

week or longer

planning their attack and

46%

spending a

week or longer actually preparing

(procuring the means) for the attack

.

3. A

majority

of active shooters

obtained

their

firearms legally

, with only very small percentages obtaining a firearm

illegally.

4. The FBI could

only

verify that

25%

of active shooters in the study had ever been

diagnosed

with a

mental illness

. Of those diagnosed, only three had been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder.

Slide21

Key Findings of

Study (Cont’d)

5. Active shooters were typically

experiencing multiple stressors

(an average of

3.6

separate stressors

) in the year before they attacked

.

6. On average, each active shooter

displayed

4 to 5

concerning behaviors

over time that were observable to others around the shooter. The

most frequently

occurring concerning behaviors were related to the active shooter’s

mental health, problematic interpersonal interactions, and leakage of violent intent

.

7. For active shooters

under

age

18

, school

peers

and

teachers

were

more likely to observe concerning behaviors than family

members. For active shooters

18

years old and

over, spouses/domestic partners

were the most likely to

observe

concerning behaviors

.

8. When concerning behavior was observed by others, the most common response was to communicate directly to the active shooter (

83%

) or do nothing (

54%

). In

41%

of the cases the concerning behavior was reported to law enforcement. Therefore, just because concerning behavior was

recognized

does not necessarily mean that it was

reported

to law enforcement.

Slide22

Slide23

While approximately one-third of active shooters in this sample victimized only random members of the public, most active shooters arrive at a targeted site with a specific person or persons in mind.

NEVER ALONE : CROWD ALERT TECHNOLOGY

Send Emergency Alerts • Share Location with GPS • Get Help Fast

The D.A.D.™ (Defense Alert Device) is the first non-lethal personal safety device with smart technology. Each device is equipped with Bluetooth to send an emergency alert via your cell phone.

The alert sends your GPS location to anyone with the D.A.D.™ app within a one mile radius, and to those in your D.A.D.™ contact list, regardless of distance. The D.A.D.™ alert prompts the receiver to call 911, and provides directions to your location, should the receiver be able to provide immediate assistance in person. Anyone with a smart phone can download the D.A.D.™ app with Crowd Alert™ today for free, because when it comes to personal safety, we are all in this together.

STAY SAFE: SAFETY TIPS 1. MAKE EYE CONTACTIt may be your first instinct to lower your gaze as you walk to your destination. But looking straight into the face of potential enemies is the better option. "Eye contact may scare off attackers because they fear you will be able to identify them," says Mary Ellen Burns, a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department.2. CHANGE IT UPRegularly change your walking routine. Plan out a few different routes that you can take and mark out “safe houses" in your mind at intervals along the way. If you feel at risk of an attack, you can stop at these shops or homes where you know you will be safe.3. CARRY DEFENSE ALERT DEVICE (D.A.D.™)ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: D.A.D.™ Military Strength Sabre RedPepper Spray has an optimized, accelerated cone spray pattern stealth delivery. 8 bursts at 6-8 feet (2-2.5M) away.

Slide42

Gun vs D.A.D.

1. STUN GUNS & TASERS

Stun guns and

tasers

often times require the user to be close to their intended target. In addition to proximity issues, heavy clothing, poor aim, and multiple attackers contribute to these device’s limitations. The stun gun's short incapacitation time allows little time to get to safety, especially in isolated areas.

2. STANDARD PEPPER

SPRAYS VS.

DEFENSE ALERT DEVICE (D.A.D.)

Pepper sprays are all too often unreliable. Recently, the University of Utah conducted a test of various sprays. Their study showed that the potency claims made by the manufacturers are often times misstated with some sprays containing only 1/100th of the potency claimed on their label. In addition to the low potency, it is uncommon for people to carry pepper spray in their hands which makes it less accessible should an attack happen.

Slide43

3. GUNS / FIREARMSThough we support the right to carry firearms, and know that firearms can save lives, firearms are impractical in a majority of situations where civilian-on-civilian attacks occur. Ending someone’s life, especially unintentionally or unjustifiably, is the last thing any of us want to do, which is why we created the most powerful non-lethal device possible with the Defense Alert Device (D.A.D.™). It often allows you to stop an attack before it ever gets to the point that lethal force becomes necessary, which is why police officers love having a TigerLight® in hand.

New Mexico Good Samaritan Law

CHAPTER 16 Tort Law -- Negligence

INSTRUCTION 13-1617. Sudden emergency.

A person who, without negligence on [his] [her] part, is suddenly and unexpectedly confronted with peril, arising from either the actual presence or the appearance of an imminent danger to [himself] [herself] or another, is not expected nor required to use the same judgment and prudence that is required of [him] [her] in the exercise of ordinary care in calmer and more deliberate moments.

[His] [Her] duty is to exercise only the care that a reasonably prudent person would exercise in the same situation.

If, at that moment, [he] [she] does what appears to [him] [her] to be the best thing to do and if [his] [her] choice and manner of action are the same as might have been followed by any reasonably prudent person under the same conditions, then [he] [she] has done all that the law requires of [him] [her], even though, in the light of after events, it might appear that a different course would have been better and safer.
