1. BACKGROUNDThe study aimed to determine and explain the level of condom use among men who have sex with men (MSM) within Metro Manila, Philippines. It also intended to determine the associations between the level of attitude on condoms towards their level of condom use and the association of the direction of condom use attitude, level of sexual health knowledge, level of condom access and the associations of their level of condom use and sexual health outcomes. METHODSThe research used a quantitative methodological approach utilizing an online self-administered survey questionnaire as a data collection tool using purposive non-probability sampling of 415 MSM. The data gathered was analyzed using descriptive statistics to find means scores, frequencies and percentages. A non parametric inferential statistics were used to test the association of variables. Condom use among men who have sex with men within Metro Manila, Philippines: Associations with attitude towards its use and sexual health outcomesJoseph S. Cadeliña, RN, MHSS1,21LoveYourself, Inc., Mandaluyong City, Philippines 2De La Salle University, Manila, PhilippinesPRESENTED AT THE 23RD INTERNATIONAL AIDS CONFERENCE (AIDS 2020) | 6-10 JULY 2020RESULTSResults showed that men who have sex with men have a high level of knowledge, high level of condom access, high level of condom use and good level of sexual health outcomes but with a negative attitude towards condom use.Only one fourth of the respondents have knowledge on the new concept of undetectable equals unstransmittable, where in a person living with HIV who have undetectable viral load by taking antiretroviral drugs cannot transmit HIV sexually.Sexual health knowledge and condom access have significant but negative association with condom use attitudeNo significant association was found between the level of condom use attitude and condom use implying that attitudes has nothing to do with MSM’s condom use practices. A significant positive correlation was found between condom use and the level of sexual health outcomes. CONCLUSIONSDespite the high level of knowledge, condom access, condom use, and sexual health outcomes among men who have sex with men within Metro Manila, their condom use attitudes were negative and the researcher recommends further investigation to gather insights on the factors affecting their negative attitudes toward condom use. Furthermore, continuation and scaling up of condom distribution programs are recommended while behavioral change communication strategies should focus on changing the negative attitudes of MSM on condom use. “Men who have sex with men in Metro Manila has negative condom use attitudes despite their high levels of knowledge, condom access, condom use and sexual health outcomes implying that attitudes has nothing to do with their condom use practices.” StatisticsValueInterpretationN415 Mean29.56High KnowledgeMedian30.00High KnowledgeMinimum19High KnowledgeMaximum33High KnowledgeTable 1Level of Sexual Health Knowledge (n=415)Domain MeanSDInterpretationReliability and effectiveness 3.360.33PositiveNegotiation of Use 2.590.35PositivePleasure 2.350.43NegativePurchasing of Condom2.000.49NegativeIdentity Stigma1.500.56NegativeCondom Use Attitude Total Mean Score2.400.23NegativeTable 2The direction of Condom Use AttitudeDomain MeanSDInterpretationType of Sexual Partner3.450.62HighConsistency3.300.80HighFrequency of Condom Use3.231.05HighType of Sex2.910.57HighType of User2.690.51HighCondom Handling2.980.34HighDuration of Use1.740.31ModerateLevel of Condom Use Total Mean Score2.920.41HighTable 3Level of Condom Use VariableCorrelation CoefficientSig.
