The purposes of the Trust are to:retain the C1 Block;manage and promote Te Waiariki and its environs and ensure that its cultural, spiritual and historical values are cared for and preserved; and give effect to the Vision Statement, including:promoting the cultural and spiritual values associated with the Taonga;ensuring the Taonga and its environs are protected and maintained to a set standard, as determined by the Trustees from time to time;generating income for the Trust’s own administration, upkeep and development;the application of income and/or capital for the benefit of the Beneficiaries whether by distribution, grant, funding of specific activities or otherwise;promoting the Taonga;liaising with other organisations for the benefit of the Taonga and the Beneficiaries; andkeeping the Beneficiaries informed of the Trust’s activitiesThe Trust’s strategic objectives in the 2016-2020 strategic plan are:Secure our turangawaewae to advance our visionSecure our economic base to advance our visionCompetent operational management of Nga WaiarikiSkilled and capable trusteesStrong connection between Trust, beneficiaries and Nga WaiarikiStrong kaitiakitanga exercised over geothermal resource

Securing our economic base – current scopeThe Trust is running a number of parallel workstreams including:Ongoing maintenance and improvements to Te Waiariki Ngawha Springs to enable the Trust to continue to operate and provide a safe and pleasant environment to its 40,000+ annual visitors (local, national and international). This is fully funded by the TrustTe Waiariki Ngawha Springs Enhancement and development project – Stage 1Exploring the wider development - Stages 2 (remainder of 4 acres) and 3 (Ginns Ngawha spa property 8 acres – acquisition and development), and its integration with the wider complexImproving the Trusts capability and capacity, engagement with beneficiaries and it’s wider stakeholders.

Planning what it could involve….The development in these stages could include: continued improvements to the visitor experience at the pools such as landscaping, connecting walkways, beautification addition of additional products and or experiences such as nature walks, recreational swimming facilities, spa products accommodation (investigating options including camping ground, backpackers, camper vans, 50 bed resort)developing the hauora wellness component high end spa facility that caters to a higher end tourist, andinvestigation into joint venture arrangements.
