P/N 059603-002 440X 256K Expanded Memory Instruction Sheet The following instructions explain how to install the 256K Expanded Memory option into a 4400B or 4406 printer. This procedure is to be performed by trained service personnel only. Parts Provided: Tools Required: (2) 256K RAM chips Phillips screwdriver WARNING Electrical equipment is dangerous! Make sure the printer power switch is turned off and the AC power cord disconnected before opening the tower door. Working on live equipment can cause injury or death. Open the Printer 1. Switch off the printer power and remove the AC power cord. 2. Open the tower door by removing the three Phillips screws at the rear of the printer. Set the three screws aside. RAM Chip Installation Procedure Caution RAM chips and components on the printer main PCB are sensitive to damage by electrostatic discharge. Always wear skin contact ground straps firmly attached to the equipment metal base assembly when handling the RAM chips or touching the printer main PCB. Failure to comply may result in damage to the RAM chips and PCB components. 1. If the RAM chips have any pins that are slightly splayed, lay the chip on a hard surface on its side an d gently tilt the chip towards the pins so that the pins become perpendicular to the chip. 2. Locate sockets U43 and U49 on the main PCB. 3. Align a RAM chip so that the notch on the RAM chip matches the notch on socket U43. 4. Firmly press the RAM chip into socket U43, making sure that it is completely seated. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to install the second RAM chip into socket U49. 5. Before closing the tower door, check all cable connections. All cables must be carefully folded prior to securing the tower door. Close and secure the tower door with three Phillips screws. 6.
