Question
Is Purpose still clear?
Have practices over the years subverted its evangelistic thrust
?
Is the breakfast now only capable of evangelizing the piousSlide6
Questions and Observations
Do we need to have a sharing at the breakfast?
The chapter does not have anyone who can shareSlide7

Does't that make it a joint breakfast?Slide9
Questions and Observations
At a joint breakfast the man shares both his part of the sharing as well has that of his wife, who got sick and couldn't comeSlide10
Questions and Observations

Lost Purpose and Vision for Breakfast
The breakfast has become something we just do
Why we do what we do is no longer clear
We need re-focusing
Clarifying purpose

Why this Topic for Chapter Heads?
Chapter Heads are responsible for everything in the chapter
Including the effectiveness of the BreakfastSlide13
Topics of our Retreat
The Breakfast is just a breakfast
Nothing more, nothing less
The Breakfast is for evangelization
It does not exist for the Chapter
members
It is not the place for the music ministry to give a concert
The Sharing is to bring people to Jesus
It is not an opportunity to tell one’s life storySlide14

Goal: Clarifying vision and purpose of the breakfastSlide15
Case 1:
To reduce cost the Chapter governance team in a certain place transferred the breakfast to the retreat house run by the Sisters of Divine Compassion on the invitation of the sisters who are very close to some of the members. There is really only a minimal charge for a very good breakfast. However, what is really wonderful according to the breakfast head and mission director is the fact that the breakfast room is next to the chapel and this makes it possible to transfer to the chapel after the breakfast and there in the presence of the Lord in the blessed Sacrament listen to the sharing. To gain the benefit fully, the breakfast head and mission director decided on the following format for the second part in the chapel. They always now begin by imploring the mercy of the Lord. All kneel while the music ministry leads them in the song “Lord have mercy”. This is followed by 5 minute of silent adoration. After that the sharer is introduced and after the sharing the usual response is given and after the announcements the meeting is concluded with a hymn to our Lady. Many of the members are deeply moved by the new format. Even the sisters come and listen to the sharing from their place in the balcony of the chapel. They do so even at men’s breakfasts.
Slide16
You are the RCD. You find out about the above quite by accident. A member of your own chapter had been invited to be a sharer there and sitting next to you at your chapter’s prayer assembly shares with you how deeply he was impressed by the devotion and wonderful closeness of the Lord in the breakfast of that chapter. Looking into the matter you find out that the above is really true and happening. How will you handle the situation and why?Slide17

Why a Breakfast?
Real red-blooded he-men don't go to prayer meetings
Religion is a woman's thing
Too emotional
Real red-blooded he-men may come to a breakfastSlide24
Why a Breakfast
Its purpose is to evangelize real red-blooded, he-men
This is still the purpose even at the joint breakfast
We want to reach sinners, the unchurched, men without a relationship with Jesus or ChurchSlide25
Why a Breakfast
The breakfast needs to remain just a breakfast for that reason
For real red-blooded men to feel comfortable
The BCBP men at the breakfast need to be real red-blooded he-men
In love with ChristSlide26
Why the Breakfast
BCBP tendency to make
the breakfast
a religious event
Statues, candles, religious
imagesSlide27
Why a breakfast?
Tendency to separate the breakfast from the religious second part
Destroys the integrity of the breakfastSlide28
Ideal Evangelistic Breakfast
Opening song and grace before meals
Song with just one or two guitarists
No singers in front
We all know the songs and we all love to sing
Singing community most importantSlide29

Talk 2: The Breakfast and Evangelization
Everything at the Breakfast must support evangelizationSlide32
Introduction
Everything at the Breakfast must support evangelization
Something is good when it supports evangelization
Something is bad when it hinders evangelizationSlide33
Case 2:
The breakfast of the chapter is always well-attended and there are always new comers. What the breakfast team is quite proud of is their great music ministry. As soon as you enter the hall where the breakfast takes place you are surrounded by the sound of the BCBP songs beautiful rendered by the ministry. Thus from the very beginning the focus is on worship of the Lord as people listen to the songs while they get their food and have breakfast. Of course the music ministry leads the opening song. They make it extra special by adding a fancy ending. Often they render a special song for all to listen as part of the response to the sharing. As soon as the final announcements are done and the closing prayer is said the music ministry renders more BCBP songs to accompany the breakfasters on their way out of the hall.Slide34
The breakfast head and mission director have noticed that in spite of the fact that the breakfast is so focused on the Lord most of the first timers remain once-timers. They share this concern with the Chapter Head and he has decided to discuss this with you all, the members of his governance team.
How would you analyze the situation. What could be possible reasons for most first-timers to remain once-timers.Slide35
Blocks to Evangelization
Loud and constant singing blocks evangelization
Very difficult to talk
Difficult to introduce guests to others
Prevents conversation and camaraderieSlide36
Blocks to Evangelization
Sponsors are ignorant or prevented to do their duty
To introduce their guest to as many as possible
Guest is to feel at home
To feel he/she knows the people at the breakfastSlide37
Duties of Sponsors
Introduce your guest to those at your table
If possible also to some others
For your guest to come back
He/she must feel part of the breakfast groupSlide38
Duties of BCBP Members
Share with first timers
How you came to the BCBP
What the BCBP has done for you
Share the influence it has had on your business and professional lifeSlide39
Right Use of Music
Only use the following
Opening song (1 only)
Response song (optional)
Closing songSlide40
No Music Ministry Needed
Don't have singers in front
The entire BCBP group should sing
Possible bad influence of a Music Ministry
Will make the community passive
Listening rather than singing activelySlide41
Evaluation Question
Does this activity
Help or hinder evangelization
Connecting individuals to the BCBP
Will it get him/her to come back to the next breakfast
Bringing them closer to the LordSlide42

The Sharing
The Heart of the BreakfastSlide44
Can you have a breakfast without sharing?
A breakfast without a testimony to Jesus makes no sense for the BCBP
The sharing is crucial for our evangelization
Let us begin with a caseSlide45
Case 3:
At a joint breakfast
Mirabelle
and Amadeus Sta. Cruz were the sharers. They shared about their lives, their families during their childhood and early years, how they found each other, and the years of their marriage, their ups and downs and how they finally found a home in the BCBP. They also shared how they got into service and about all the sacrifices they have made for the sake of the BCBP and the Lord. They shared about how much they were blessed as a consequence of their generosity. Their business is flourishing, they are able to travel, but above all the blessing of a vacation house in
Midlands,
Tagaytay
, where
the family can get together on weekends. They had so much to share that it took nearly an hour. Slide46
You are the chapter Head and you happened to attend that breakfast. You noticed that some people left while the sharing was still going on. Also toward the end of the sharing you could hear people talking in the back of the room. The breakfast ended nearly 45 minutes later than scheduled. Since this was not the first time that breakfast sharers went on for a long time you decided to discuss and evaluate the sharing at the governance meeting.
You are the members of the governance. Discuss the case above and evaluate it. What do you think about it? What really is the purpose of the sharing? What should be the result of an effective sharing whether a single or couple sharing?Slide47
Evangelization and Sharing
Our purpose in all we do
To help people enter into a personal relationship with Jesus
To accept Jesus as personal Lord and Savior and to share in Christ's lifeSlide48
Purpose of the Sharing
To arouse a hunger or desire in new comers
To get to know Jesus as the sharer knows him
Arouse the desire to come back to hear more about JesusSlide49
Problems with long sharing
In past, attention span of an adult was 20 minutes
After 20 minutes the attention of your audience wanders
In the present, attention span of an adult is about 7 minutesSlide50
Problem with Life-Stories
Most
sharings
are "this is my life"
sharings
True especially of couple sharers
The focus is not on Jesus
The focus is on your lifeSlide51
Purpose of a good sharing
Lead new comers to Jesus
Rouse a hunger for getting to know the Lord
Rouse a desire to have Jesus come into their livesSlide52
Structure of a good sharing
Twenty minute sharing
5 Minutes intro and
situationer
10 minutes how Jesus came into the situation and made a difference
3 minutes, summarization and conclusion,
What is the difference since thenSlide53
Example of St. Paul
Introduction
You have heard, no doubt, of my earlier life in Judaism. I was violently persecuting the church of God and was trying to destroy it.Slide54
Example of Paul
Main part of sharing
I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things
,
want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, 11 if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Slide55
Example of Paul
Body of sharing continued
I want
to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, 11 if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Slide56
Example of Paul
Conclusion
Now I press
on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Slide57
Example of Paul
Conclusion
and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of
God, who
loved me and gave himself for me.Slide58
The Structure of Paul's Sharing
I was this: a sinner, a persecutor of the Church
God revealed his Son to me a sinner
I fell in love with Jesus Christ
Now I am making Christ the center of my daily life and live for himSlide59
Sharing Workshop
Men/women's sharing
Work time 20 minutes
Length of sharing 5 minutes
Introduction 1 minute
Body of Sharing 3 min
Conclusion 1 minSlide60
Share in your group (only 5 min)
Give feedback
Was it no longer than 5 minutes?
Was the focus on Jesus and what he had done for the individual?
Would it encourage new comers to want to know Jesus more?Slide61
Couple Sharing
Length of sharing 6 min
Introduction 1 min
Body of sharing
2 min for man and 2 min for woman
Conclusion 1 minSlide62
Work Time 20 min
Share in your groups
Feedback
Did it observe the time limit of 6 min?
Did it put Jesus in the center
Would it help first-timers to want to know Jesus more?Slide63
Feedback on Couple Sharing
The couple
sharings
are not really couple
sharings
They are two individual
sharings
Presented alternately
First the man says something about himself
Then the woman does the sameSlide64
Genuine couple sharing
Choose one experience
Share how this impacted you both
Share how the Lord came into the situation
Share what happened then
Let it be the sharing of the couple not of him and her done alternatelySlide65
Where Do We Go From Her
The Next StepsSlide66
Toward a Breakfast Development Plan
In Regional Groups
Set one goal for 2016-2017
To make your breakfast a more effective tool of evangelizationSlide67
How to discover the goal
Ask with respect to the breakfast
If we had time to do only one thing
What would be the thing that would make the greatest difference
If we did it well and
consistantlySlide68
Develop Implementation Steps
What would be the implementation steps that would incorporate that one thing into your breakfast?
What is the first step that you need to take? The second, the third?Slide69
Time Frame
Last quarter of 2016
Do all the preliminaries
Make adjustments as neededSlide70
January2017 and onward
Implement the plan fully
Fully implement your "new" breakfast
starting January 2017
