The Male Body

The Testes

The testes, also called the testicles, are the organs that make sperm and the primary male sex hormone, testosterone.

Leaving the Testes

After

leaving the testes, sperm mature in the epididymis. Then, the sperm are mixed with fluids and carried out of the man’s body through the

penis.Slide7

The Male Body

Ejaculation:

When the male body releases semen from the penis through a series of forceful muscular contractions.

Interesting fact:

Each time ejaculation occurs, 3 to 4 millions sperm cells are released.Slide8

Path of sperm / Male Reproductive System:Slide9

The Path Traveled by Sperm

The Vas Deferens

When the sperm are fully mature, they move into the vas deferens. The vas deferens run from each epididymis, out of the scrotum.

The Urethra

The urethra is the tube that carries urine and

semen out

of the body through the penis.Slide10

Male Body cont.

Sperm spend 70 days forming in the seminiferous tubules. They then spend several weeks maturing in the epididymis.Slide11

Sperm

When sperm join with a female reproductive cell (an ovum) pregnancy occurs.

Males begin to make sperm cells between the ages of 12 and 15. Slide15

Terms and interesting facts:

The purpose of the scrotum is to maintain the appropriate temperature of the testes so that they can produce sperm.

The scrotum accomplishes this task by holding the testes close to the body when cold, or further from the body when warm.

Erection

:

This is when the penis become upright and firm. When the penis is erect ejaculation can occur. Slide16
