6.2 Photosynthesis pp. 118-120: Transcript
Photosynthesis Process plant cells use light energy to rearrange water and carbon dioxide molecules into sugar molecules Oxygen is a byproduct leftover waste product Energy now stored in the sugar. Define Photosynthesis. The process by which plants manufacture (make) carbohydrates from raw materials using energy from the light.. Word and Chemical equation of Photosynthesis. 6CO. 2. + 6H. 2. O . By . Ms. Megan Black. Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process of making food by plants. The essential ingredients in making this food are sunlight, the chlorophyll that is present in green plants, water and carbon dioxide in the air. . Leaf Disc Assay. F Block. Photosynthesis Lab. . An Educational Slide Created By Squade. . (Andy, Alex, Colin, Jordyn). Summary of Findings . In this lab, the effects of plant photosynthesis were investigated by comparing the rates of photosynthesis of two plants, spinach and kale. The rate of photosynthesis was measured the number of leaf cutouts on the surface per minute. These floating leaf cutouts show that oxygen, a product of photosynthesis is produced. We found that the rate of photosynthesis for the spinach leaves was 8.6 cutouts per minutes, 1.4 less than that of the kale leaves (10 cutouts per minute.) This difference could be a result the different amounts of light absorbing chlorophyll present in each leaf, or a difference in vascular tissue sizes, which may affect the plant’s ability to absorb water for photosynthesis.. 40 186 294 264152 165 132206 242 217 292 187 300 340 220 302338 488 399 313 347 208 162 165 118 94 41 12 34 1 34 2 34 2 208 162 165 118 94 208 162 165 118 94 300 218 129 268 226 Thesolidandcompactbrac Unit 3 . We tested the photosynthetic rate of leaf discs of spinach (control) to arugula (experimental) under a 100 watt lamp. Spinach had a higher rate of photosynthesis.
