Bell Ringer In the documentary on Ecumenism, one of the theologians said that since the Church was a human institution, it would be in constant need of reform. What’s one modern reform that you feel the Church would benefit from?

The Seven Sacraments Moment of Prayer

Baptism The first of the Seven Sacraments One of the three Sacraments of Initiation (including Confirmation and the Eucharist The rite by which one becomes a member of the church; and a new person in Christ

Confirmation A Sacrament of Initiation An outpouring of the special gifts of the Holy Spirit Completes the grace of Baptism by confirming or “sealing” the baptized person’s union with Christ Equips the person for active participation in the church

The Eucharist Also called the Mass or Lord’s Supper; “Thanksgiving” The central Christian liturgical celebration, established by Jesus at the Last Supper The sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus are both remembered and renewed The term “Eucharist” refers specifically to the consecrated bread and wine that have become the Body and Blood of Christ

Anointing of the Sick Formerly known as “The Sacrament of the Dying” Gravely ill, aging, or dying people are anointed by the priest and prayed over by him and attending believers A person doesn’t need to be dying to receive the sacrament

Penance and Reconciliation The liturgical celebrations of God’s forgiveness of sin Through forgiveness, the sinner is reconciled with both God and the Church

Holy Orders The Sacrament by which baptized people are ordained for permanent ministry in the Church Such as priests, nuns, bishops, and deacons

Matrimony A lifelong covenant modeled on that between Christ and the Church; in which two baptized people make an exclusive and permanent commitment to faithfully love each other to cooperate in the procreation and education of children
