Courage
Care is our core business and defines us and our work. Care helps both the individual and the whole community.
We need to build on our commitment to improve the care and experience of our patients and to take action to meet the challenges ahead.
Compassion is given through relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity. Competence means all those in the NHS have the ability to understand the departments needs and use expertise to deliver effective care based on evidence.
Communication is central to successful and effective team working, and key to a good workplace with benefits for all staff.
Courage enables us to do the right thing, to speak up when we have concerns and to have the vision to innovate and to embrace new ways of working

Band 5 Office Coordinator
Communication Skills
Another sector (Hospitality): Experience of effectively communicating with both customers and members of staff whilst working at Front of House to ensure that there was efficient service. Altering my oral communication depending on who being spoken to.
Mass Vaccination Programme: Using written communication skills to maintain and update records of vaccines. Using oral communication skills to relay important information and calm those attending.
University: Completing modules that require both an essay delivered in a lecture and a 2,000 word essay which got top marks.
Full-time carer: Being a carer to someone with mental health needs means having refined oral communication and adjusting it depending on whether you are speaking to the person or other people such as their doctor.
Slide10“Adaptability, Flexibility and ability to cope with uncertainty and change”
Band 6 Project Officer
Another sector (Retail): Being a supervisor of a supermarket, I constantly had to review rotas and manage when people called in sick, which led to a change of direction in terms of where I placed staff for most efficiency in store, particularly without knowing if we were going to have lots of customers or not
Mass Vaccination Programme: New guidance was being released surrounding vaccines, such as waiting time after, time between jabs, and I had to be adaptable to any of these changes in times of large uncertainty. I also have to make sure I remained knowledgeable about these changes.
Career Break: I took a career break to raise my family. When Covid-19 hit, I had to deal with uncertain times with small children, home-schooling and supporting last minute my elderly neighbours who were anxious to leave the house and needed medication collecting. I had to balance all of these tasks and be willing to adapt my priorities
Adaptability
Slide11“Passionate, Caring and Enthusiastic”
Support Worker (paid hourly)
NHS Values
Another sector (Hospitality): In a previous hospitality role, I had to demonstrate passion for the food we were serving and be knowledgeable and enthusiastic so I could give people recommendations. This meant doing additional research and attend training about new menus and food options.
Mass Vaccination Programme: People were nervous or sceptical about receiving a vaccine but I felt passionately about the importance of my role and I had to reassure people
University: In my spare time, I have volunteered for a charity society at University that supports people with learning disabilities.
Career Break: I took a career break to raise my family. Looking after two young children independently was tiring but important to me as I wanted to provide the best care possible to them.

Make sure you are concise and really highlight your talents and strengths
If you are changing roles it is important you link your current skills to the person specification and show how it connects to the job description. Demonstrate your values and the 6 C’s!
Ambassadors:
Do you have any tips on completing your supporting information?
