Concept twoThe Al-Anon Family Groups have delegated complete administrative and operational authority to their Conference and its service arms.“The World Service Conference is the active voice and the effective group conscience of our society in world affairs”In practice: each and every member of the conference taking an actual and spiritual responsibility for our world services.

Reflections as I walked through: “I never know what a difference I will make in the lives of others”“How does my home reflect my recovery?”“Am I proud of my membership in Al-Anon?”“Lois and Bill were human. Not just in the early stories!”Stepping Stones Visit

Where it all began…a sense of dedication and solitude.

Never in my wildest dreams…Three generations of family members at Stepping Stones (and our friend Norm W.!)

The feeling that Lois and Bill are family that I never had the chance to meet.

Chosen Agenda Items WSC 2018CAI: When does group autonomy end and an issue begins affecting another group or Al-Anon or A.A. as a whole? Service beyond the group level. How do we instill enthusiasm and positivity for leadership positions in our program? What kind of new and ongoing training does your Area have for District Representatives?

CAI: Full conference discussion: When does group autonomy end and an issue begins affecting another group or Al-Anon or A.A. as a whole?

ScenariosA group conscience for a meeting decides they do not want to have a Group Representative. They tell the current G.R. that they are no longer needed.A group conscience for a meeting decides that they will allow members to share for as long as they like during meetings. A group decides to have 10 minutes of silent meditation at the beginning of the meeting. A bell is rung to mark this beginning and end of this time. A group decides to pay for a member to attend the International Convention and bring a report back.

Service beyond the group level. How do we instill enthusiasm and positivity for leadership positions in our program? What kind of new and ongoing training does your Area have for District Representatives?

Full Conference Discussion: Area Reserve Fund PresentationMany areas have large reserve funds. Some areas have investments in stocks and bonds, and CDs.Discussion about what constitutes excess funds.Discussion about what a reserve is useful for.

Reserve Fund DiscussionThe spiritual foundation for Al-Anon’s world services is contained in the General Warranties of the Conference, Article 12 of the Charter. 1. that only sufficient operating funds, including an ample reserve, be its prudent financial principle. All the Warranties counsel prudence—prudence in personal relations, prudence in money matters and prudence in our contacts with the world around us. For Al-Anon, prudence is a middle ground, a channel between fear on the one hand and recklessness on the other. Prudence creates a climate of harmony, effectiveness and consistent spiritual progress. These Warranties express the wisdom of taking thought for the future based on lessons of the past. They protect us against needless errors and the natural human temptations of wealth, prestige and power.

Full Conference Discussion Questions Why was our Area *reserve fund established? When was the last time our Area reviewed the purpose? What is/are the Area’s current goal(s) for the *reserve fund? How have Area *reserve funds been utilized in the past? Was there an emergency, a special project, a substantial decline in income, or another reason?

Regional Trustee Process (RT)The Board of Trustees asked the Conference to participate in a conversation related to the current Regional Trustee Process. The goal was to solicit comments and ideas that might lead to revisions/clarifications that would improve the current process. Our ongoing objective is to receive increasing numbers of qualified Regional Trustee candidates.

The Regional Trustee Process: Could YOU be the next Regional Trustee? In our Area, the Assembly makes the decision.Your resume will need to be sent to our Chair around WSC time so that it can be submitted by the August 2019 deadline.January/February 2019 is the time to decide.AWSC presents to the Spring Assembly. If we want to have a nominee for the SW Regional Trustees. 10 continuous Al-Anon Service; No dual membership.

“You don’t have to be Lois’ reincarnation to be a trustee”~Norm W.

Celebrating Our Differences and Our Common PurposeTask ForcePREJUICIO: Es parcialidad o prejuicio, preferencia injusta o aversión hacia algo o alguien. BIAS is partiality or prejudice, unfair preference for or dislike of something or someone. Are my own personal biases keeping me from embracing those different from myself and being open and welcoming to all?

How do I feel if I walk into a meeting and everyone looks different from me?  How do I feel when a member shares their experience with a Higher Power different than mine?  Where do I usually sit in my home group? How do I feel if someone is in “my spot?”   Do I believe I can learn and grow by listening to someone much older or younger share?

How do I ensure members with visible or non-visible disabilities are welcome in my meeting?  What is my reaction when someone new appears disheveled? When someone new appears well-dressed?  Is attending a diverse meeting important to me or am I more comfortable in a meeting where we are all the same? What is my reaction when someone new identifies themselves as a member of another twelve-step program? Am I willing to help them understand the concept of anonymity?

Taking A Personal Inventory Haciendo un inventario personal Would I be comfortable if a member brought a small child to my meeting? How about a teenager?  Am I comfortable having a meeting in a mosque, synagogue or church?  Do I pay attention to someone’s grammar and reading skills and compare them to my own?  How do I react when someone new comes to my meeting and shares that a family member or friend is a drug addict?

Taking A Personal Inventory Haciendo un inventario personal Am I willing to be a Sponsor/Sponsee to a member in a heterosexual relationship? Same-sex relationship? Single? Divorced?  Am I welcoming to a newcomer who speaks a language different than the primary language of the meeting?  Is the closing in my home meeting inclusive to people from diverse backgrounds and experiences?

Using Al-Anon’s Spiritual Principles ➢  Unity and Participation—How can I remind myself that our common welfare should come first, as stated in Tradition One? ➢  Respect and Open-Mindedness—How can I put “principles above personalities” and show loving respect to every member?
