1 Samuel 17
41
And the Philistine moved forward and came near to David, with his shield-bearer in front of him.
42
And when the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance.
43
And the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44
The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field.”Slide3
45
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the
Lord
of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
46
This day the
Lord
will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, Slide4
47
and that all this assembly may know that the
Lord
saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the
Lord
's, and he will give you into our hand.”
48
When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine.
49
And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.Slide5
50
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. Slide6Slide7
James 5:13-16 - The Prayer of Faith
13
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
14
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15
And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Slide8
16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Slide9Slide10
2 Samuel 12 : 15 - 23
And the
Lord
afflicted the child that Uriah's wife bore to David, and he became sick.
16
David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground.
17
And the elders of his house stood beside him, to raise him from the ground, but he would not, nor did he eat food with them. Slide11
18
On the seventh day the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he did not listen to us. How then can we say to him the child is dead? He may do himself some harm.”
19
But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”Slide12
20
Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the
Lord
and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate.
21
Then his servants said to him, “What is this thing that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive; but when the child died, you arose and ate food.” Slide13
22
He said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows whether the
Lord
will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23
But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.”Slide14
