From 1930s1950s Blues music evolved over time meshing with Jazz music New upbeat BluesJazz styles emerged such as Boogie Woogie and Rhythm and Blues Racial tensions were at an all time high in the US due to Segregation laws and lack of Civil Rights. Before World War II. Teenagers expected to take life seriously. Males joined the military or go and get a job . Females taught to take care of the house and prepare to be a dutiful wife and mother. Marriage seen as more important than education or a career. Hybrid of several other styles:. Blues, rhythm and blues, gospel music, country, crooners and harmony groups. Early style of Rock and Roll was called “rockabilly”, because it combined Blues and Country music. Gender Roles in the 50s. Dad is the bread winner. Mom is the happy homemaker. Homemaker’s Lives Made Easier?. Dissatisfied in the Home. In the 50’s, it was said that women went to college for a “Mrs.” degree, not a B.A.. “The Nation Prospers”. Baby Boom. It is a significant increase in the number of babies born . It took place in the years following World War II. As people were better off after the war, more got married and started families.
