From the Purdue OWL 1 Replace several vague words with more powerful and specific words Often writers use several small and ambiguous words to express a concept wasting energy expressing ideas better relayed through fewer specific words As a general rule more specific words lead to more concise writing . All rights reserved A legal document that concisely conveys the same message in 10 pages is more useful than one that rambles on for 20 pa ges But writing concisely does not mean hacking your document down to size As you pursue concision do not sacr Before You Write What Why and Who Be able to articulate your overall objective and specific goals for the p roject clearly and use those to organize the remainder of the proposal Be able to convey why your project should be seen as valuable to fund To be able to do this you must arefully choose the words that best convey what you mean to say Concision saves space and produces more readable prose x Try to spot problem sentences by reading your paper aloud If something gets your tongue tied or Importance of concise writing. To Keep our reader’s attention. To make sure our meaning is clear. To eliminate misunderstanding. Eliminate unnecessary words that distract readers from the message.. How to reduce wordiness. Eliminate Redundancies and Repetition. Although Bennett’s arguments about children being raised by homosexual couples seem strong, there are many inconsistencies such as Bennett not bringing evidence into his argument.
