1. Daniel was a Prophet / Seer who was among those who were first taken from Jerusalem / Judah as a young person during the reigns of
Jehoiakim
and
Jehoiachin
(prior to Jerusalem’s final destruction).
2. Daniel ministered during the reigns of the Babylonian kings, Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar & the reigns of the
Medo
-Persian kings, Darius and Cyrus (the king who allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem). Slide3

earth will pass away, but when God’s
kingdom
comes, it will never end.

B. The
Image of gold and the Fiery Furnace (Daniel 3
)
1. Nebuchadnezzar sets up an image of gold. He
commanded
all to bow down to it but Daniel’s
three friends refuse. 2. When threatened with death in a blazing furnace
, they testify that God may or may not
save
them but that they will not worship the
king’s
image or any other god.Slide12
3. When
thrown into the fire, four are seen by
the
king. They are brought out unharmed.
The
king decrees that no one may say
anything against the God the three Jews worship. (Daniel 3:19-30)Slide13
C. Nebuchadnezzar
loses his sanity (Daniel 4
)
1. Neb. Is given a dream of warning that God is going to humble him because of his pride in his power and position. Daniel interprets the dream and urges the king to repent. One year later Neb. walks around his palace saying “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” Slide14
2. He
loses his mind and lives like a wild animal until such time (7 years) as he raises his eyes to heaven and his sanity is restored and he praises God

D. The writing on the wall (Daniel 5)
1. Belshazzar – the son of Neb. has a party and decides to use the vessels from the temple in Jerusalem Neb. took from there.
2. A weird message appears on the wall, written by floating fingers. Daniel was brought in to read it. First he reminds the king of what his father, Neb. learned – to humble himself before God and acknowledge that God is sovereign over all kingdoms. Daniel accuses Belshazzar of dishonoring the Lord who holds Belshazzar’s life in his hands. Slide16

: Your kingdom will be divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

. That very night, Belshazzar is killed and Darius the Mede
took

E. Daniel
in the Lion’s Den (Daniel 6
)
1. Darius keeps Daniel as an administrator in
his
kingdom and respected him
. 2. Out of jealousy, other officials made Darius issue a decree that if anyone who prays to someone
other than the king would be
thrown
to his death into a den (pit) of lions.

3. Daniel
had continued to pray to God and is
reluctantly
(by the king) thrown into the den of
lions
. Darius hopes that the God of Daniel will
deliver him.4. Daniel is spared from death and the other officials are
thrown into the den (with wives and children)
and
