Example from current

system in use at AhusSlide8

Freeing of time that today is used to search for information gives more time to focus on the patient .

Doctors can focus on «doctor things» instead of searching for information.Medical terms and expressions based on medical ontologies are used to avoid misunderstandings.

Consistency can be checked with available data sources/ schemas.Information can be retrieved without the involvement of IT-experts.

The risks for unwanted patient incidents are considerably reduced by improved access to information!8Slide9

Pilot study at Ahus (November 2015 – January

2016)Project description

Demonstrate how improved patient security can be achieved by making information in existing data sources more easily available when preparing for surgery. The Surgery notification form is the basis for the study. The pilot (can be demonstrated)

«The Optique Way» is retrieving of data directly from several source databases in parallel, without temporary storage of intermediate results. This implies that the databases can stay where they are but still be available for integrated usage. 2 roles (Anesthesia and Gastro-surgery) and 2 diagnosis (Inguinal hernia (lyskebrokk) and colon cancer).Intelligent search in unstructured data can replace «manual» search in EPJs.Consistency checks of manual filled in forms.Web based solution..9Slide10

Observation of “todays” situation at AHUS

Patient data is individual, both «fresh» and «historical and stored in several but not connected data bases. In the current EPJ search for information is cumbersome. Many different data sources.

Unstructured data is dominating.Manual transfer / multiple registrations of same data leads to risk for errors.Data quality is reported to be poor. Vital for patient security that all available information about a patient is easily available when preparing for a surgery.

Improved data security will contribute to improved patient security. 10Slide11
