HOW HAS THE FILM changed SINCE IT WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED?

may stand out about that initial casting is the make-up of the characters. You have Harley Quinn and
who are basically the team's headliners, as well as the Joker, the movie's key selling point, but then it's a bit of a random selection. And a big chunk of the cast is missing too; El Diablo and Amanda Waller were added in February 2015, while Killer Croc and Katana weren't confirmed until March.
You'd have assumed these later-cast roles would be smaller, but that doesn't seem to be the case. As things have developed the full ensemble nature of the film has become clear and previous "background" cast members (Jay Hernandez and
in particular) appear much more essential
Marketing Did A U-Turn
Warner Bros. really didn't want to put the Comic-Con First Look for Suicide Squad online - they'd released Batman V Superman's trailer straight away, but even after it leaked in crappy camera phone quality the studio ummed
about showing the world its first look at Task Force X.
It now looks like it was actually out of fear of
the film. The First Look paints Suicide Squad as a dark, intense Dirty Dozen flick, but everything since, from the Blitzing trailers to the garish posters, is selling something very different; a vibrant, blackly comic anti-Avengers that still has a pervasive sense of
That's quite a change, although you imagine things would have always gone this colourful route had Warner's hand not been forced - the First Look was released when the film was still shooting, before the bright CG augmentation could be done. Let that be a lesson about how leak-heavy SDCC is.Slide6
the hype machine needs feeding, whenever an anticipated movie has reshoots, it's headline news with rumours of disaster or major change-ups. The word around Suicide Squad's lengthy reshoots was that it was to bring the movie more in-line with the tone of those trailers; allegedly all the jokes were in the Bohemian Rhapsody one and Warner were desperate to give the fans more. There's also the suggestion is was dealing with predicted Batman V Superman fallout (they were planned before that film hit, but the studio clearly knew which way the tide was going).
Now it's important to remember we can't take any of this speculation as gospel. Similar sources claimed there was a "no jokes" rule in the DCEU, something Batman V Superman proved wrong, and there's about five different reasons for Rogue One's recent reshoots. However, while everything said about the reshoots probably isn't true (the Blitz trailer, released during the reshoots, had plenty of new jokes), their scale suggests there's been some changes to the film.Slide7
