“Jesus Sinners Will Receive”

Jesus sinners will receive

May we all this saying ponder

Who in sin’s delusions live

And from God and heaven wanderHere is hope for all who grieveJesus sinners will receive.Slide3

We deserve but grief and shame,

Yet His words, rich grace revealing,

Pardon, peace, and life proclaim.

Here our guilt has perfect healing

Who with humble hearts believeJesus sinners will receive.Slide4

Come, you sinners, one and all,

Come, accept His invitation;

Come, obey His gracious call,

Come and take His free salvation!

Firmly in these words believe:Jesus sinners will receive.LSB

Opening ResponseLeader: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.People: Amen.

Leader: Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

People: Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.Slide6

Leader: For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.People: For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.Leader: I acknowledged my sin to You, and I did not cover my iniquity;

People: I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.Slide7

Confession and Absolution

People: O God, when we look back at our lives on this

Ash Wednesday, we realize that we have failed in our faithfulness and broken Your law. We turned away when we were able to do good. We have turned our backs on the poor and abandoned the helpless, the homeless, the broken and lonely. We have held anger against those who have hurt us, and failed to seek forgiveness from those we have hurt. Slide8

People: Forgive us, O God. As we begin the journey of these 40 Lenten days, wash us completely, so that by the gift of forgiveness won for us by Jesus we shall be clean and made whole. Amen.

Leader: Hear the Good News: The Lord, our God, is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love (Joel 2:13). God hears the cries of the repentant and forgives our sins. By our Lord’s command I announce to you the forgiveness of all your sins.Slide9

I have also been forgiven;

And when I this earth must leave,

Old Testament Reading Psalm 51:1-12 Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You may be justified in Your words and blameless in Your judgment.Slide13

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, You delight in truth in the inward being, and You teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that You have broken rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Slide14

Gospel Reading Luke 5:17-25 On one of those days, as He was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Him to heal. And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. Slide15

And when He saw their faith, He said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” When Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, glorifying God.Slide16

Just as I am without one plea

But that Thy blood was shed for me,

And that Thou

bidst

me come to Thee,O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just As I Am

Words by Charlotte Elliott, Travis Cottrell,

Sue C. Smith & David MoffittSlide17

Just as I am and waiting not

To rid my soul of one dark blot,

To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,

O Lamb of God, I come, I come.Slide18

I come broken to be mended.

I come wounded to be healed.

I come

desp’rate

to be rescued.I come empty to be filled.Slide19

I come guilty to be pardoned

By the blood of Christ, the Lamb.

And I’m welcomed with open arms,

Praise God, just as I am.Slide20

Just as I am I would be lost,

But mercy and grace my freedom bought.

And now to glory in Your cross,

O Lamb of God, I come, I come.Slide21

I come broken to be mended.

I come wounded to be healed.

I come

desp’rate

to be rescued.I come empty to be filled.Slide22

I come guilty to be pardoned

By the blood of Christ, the Lamb.

And I’m welcomed with open arms,

Praise God, just as I am.Slide23

I come broken to be mended.

I come wounded to be healed.

I come

desp’rate

to be rescued.I come empty to be filled.Slide24

I come guilty to be pardoned

By the blood of Christ, the Lamb.

And I’m welcomed with open arms,

Praise God, just as I am.

Praise God, just as I am!

A Time of PrayerSlide43

PrayersLeader: Lord, we bring our praises to You, for You have done marvelous things. Your holy hand has lifted us from the curse of sin, and Your kingdom of justice and peace is revealed in our reconstructed lives. Remember now Your steadfast love and faithfulness to all Your people, especially those we bring before You today. We pray for those in distant and troubled countries we could all too easily ignore. For the sake of Your love send Your peace into our broken world. Father in heaven:

People: Your kingdom come.Slide44

Leader: We pray for those who mourn, those who grieve, those who seek consolation, that through us they might be deeply comforted. Father in heaven: People: Your kingdom come.

Leader: We pray for those who are sick in body, mind, or spirit, especially those we name in our hearts. Send Your Spirit’s presence and renew them. Give us eyes to see You in all of these in need. Father in heaven:

People: Your kingdom come.Slide45

Leader: We pray for healing of body and spirit, that Your Spirit of love would guide those with healing skills, and that all Your people might be restored to wholeness. Father in heaven: People: Your kingdom come.

Leader: We pray for the world You created and blessed, for the vitality of oceans, forests, plains, and mountains. Make us agents of Your loving care so that the earth itself might be healed. Father in heaven:

People: Your kingdom come.Slide46

Leader: We pray most of all for Your presence with us now. Equip us for Your service, for we pray in the name of Jesus, the glorious King. Amen.Slide47

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,

And the glory Forever and ever. Amen!Slide48

50

So, we share in this Bread of Life,

and we drink of His sacrifice,

as a sign of our bonds of peace

around the table of the King.Slide51

51

The body of our Savior, Jesus Christ,

torn for you: Eat and remember

the wounds that heal,

the death that brings us life,

paid the price to make us one.Slide52

52

So, we share in this Bread of Life,

and we drink of His sacrifice,

as a sign of our bonds of love

around the table of the King.Slide53

53

The blood that cleanses

ev’ry

stain of sin, shed for you:

Drink and remember

He drained death’s cup that all may

enter in to receive the life of God.Slide54

54

So, we share in this Bread of Life,

and we drink of His sacrifice,

as a sign of our bonds of grace

around the table of the King.Slide55

55

And so with thankfulness and faith

we rise to respond and to remember

our call to follow in the steps of Christ

as His body here on earth.Slide56

56

As we share in His suffering,

we proclaim: Christ will come again!

And we’ll join in the feast of

heav’n

around the table of the King.

Go With God’s BlessingLeader: Now may the gracious love and forgiveness of Jesus be with you, the love of the Father sustain you and the power and presence of the Spirit encompass and equip you. Amen

.Slide58

God loved the world so that He gave

His only Son the lost to save

That all who would in Him believe

Should everlasting life receive.

"God Loved the World so that He Gave"Slide59

Christ Jesus is the ground of faith,

Who was made flesh and suffered death;

All then who trust in Him alone

Are built on this chief cornerstone.Slide60

God would not have the sinner die;

His Son with saving grace is nigh;

His Spirit in the Word declares

How we in Christ are heaven’s heirs.Slide61

Be of good cheer, for God’s own Son

Forgives all sins which you have done;

And, justified by Jesus’ blood,

Your baptism grants the highest good.Slide62

If you are sick if death is near,

This truth your troubled heart can cheer:

Christ Jesus saves your soul from death

That is the firmest ground of faith.Slide63

Glory to God the Father, Son,

And Holy Spirit Three in One!

To You, O blessed Trinity,

Be praise now and eternally!
