God’s Life

"For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in

Himself John 5:26

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and

I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand

Life in jars of clay

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

We are

hard pressed

on every side, but

not crushed

;

perplexed

, but

not in despair

;

persecuted

, but

not

abandoned

;

struck down

, but

not destroyed

.

10

We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

11

For we who are alive are always

being given over to death

for Jesus’ sake, so that

His

life

may also be revealed in our mortal body.

12

So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you

. 2

Cor

4:7-12Slide7

From Life to Life

For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;

to

the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from

life to life

.

Cor

2: 15-16 (NASB)Slide8

Reign in LIFE

For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will

those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness

reign in life

through the one man, Jesus Christ!

Rom 5:17 NIV

We can know more…

I pray that

the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the

eyes of your heart may be

enlightened

, so that you will

know

what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His

inheritance

in the saints,

and

what is the surpassing greatness of His

power

toward us who believe.

(

Eph

1:18-19 NASB)Slide10

Growing in knowledge and understanding

For

this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to

fill you with the knowledge

of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,

Colossians 1:9

NASB

I

pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in

deepening your understanding

of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ

.

Philemon 1:6

Look to Abraham and Sarah

51 “

Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness,

You who seek the

Lord

:

Look to the rock

from which

you were hewn,

And to the hole of the pit

from which

you were dug.

2

Look to Abraham your father,

And to Sarah

who

bore you;

For I called him alone,

And blessed him and increased him.”

For the

Lord

will comfort Zion,

He will comfort all her waste places;

He will make her wilderness like Eden,

And her desert like the garden of the

Lord

;

Joy and gladness will be found in it,

Thanksgiving and the voice of melody

.(Isaiah 51NIV)Slide12

What can we learn from Abraham?

For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the

righteousness of faith

. For if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified;

Rom 4:13-14 (NASB)Slide13

Heirs

And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s

descendants

, heirs according to promise.

Gal 3:19NASBSlide14

What can we learn from Abraham and

S

arah?

Heirs don’t work – heirs inherit

Heirs are sons not slavesSlide15

Abraham righteous by faith

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? "

ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.

” Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.…Rom 4:2-4(NASB)Slide16

Sarah our mother

21

Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says?

22

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman.

23

His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

24

These things are being taken figuratively:

The women represent two covenants

. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar.

25

Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children.

26

But the

Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

27Slide17

Children of the free woman

28

Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.

29

At that time the son born according to the flesh persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now.

30

But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”

31

Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.Slide18

Promise of

sonship

God sent forth His

S

on, born of a woman born under the Law, so

that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Because

you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father

!”

Therefore

you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God

.

Gal 4:4-7Slide19

The Ten Commandments are the cornerstone of the Old Covenant

So

He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone

.

Deu

4:13

NASB

It

came about at the end of forty days and nights that the LORD gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

Deu

9:11

NASB Slide20

Why does

P

aul want us to understand that we are not under the law?

The sting of death is sin, and the

power of sin is the law

; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1

Cor

15:56-57

But if the

ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones,

came with glory,

so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was, how will the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory? 2

Cor

3:7Slide21

The Law arouses sinful passions

But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead.

I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died; Rom 7:8-9

For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the

sinful passions aroused by the law

were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for

death. Rom 7:5Slide22

You have married another husband, Christ!

Romans 7

Therefore my brethren, you also were made to

die to the Law

through the body of Christ, so that you may be

joined to another

, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might

bear fruit for God

. Slide23

The New Covenant is better than the Old

But as it is,

Christ

has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.

For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second

.

Hebrews 8:6Slide24

Circumcised in Christ

and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;

and

in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands,

in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ

;

having

been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

Colossians 2:10-12 NASBSlide25

When

you were dead in your transgressions and the

uncircumcision

of your flesh,

He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

having

canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us,

which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

…Colossians 2:13-14
