Funa is the current Insurance Commissioner of the Philippines after having been appointed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in December 2016. As such, he sits a member of the Anti - Money Laundering Council. Prior to his appointment as such, he was appointed by then President Benigno S. Aquino III as the De puty Insurance Commissioner for Legal Services in June 2013. Commissioner Funa obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree in San Beda College of Law and passed the Bar in 1992. He took his undergraduate degree from De La Salle University. An author of various law books, a law professor and law practitioner, Commissioner Funa has filed and won landmark constitutional cases before the Supreme Court of the Philippines. He first joined government service in 1992 and became the youngest presidential - appointee of th en President Fidel Ramos.
