folktale
Two soldiers once fought bravely for one great empress. One was rewarded the general of the front line, and the other became jealous. They fought for the position and the Empress rewarded their bravery and strength. One became general of the right side of the army and the other ruled over the left side. Soon, a dark wizard came to fight. The combined might of both the army and the Fire King defeated the wizard. However, the world did not come out of the battle unscathed. One of the pillars of the many had fell and the moon and sun were confused. The Empress had to melt together five stones of different colors to repair the tears in the sky and then replaced the pillar. She then had to return the Sun and the Moon to their regular orbits. The bright colors of the stones would be the reminder that the sky was still safe.Slide7
Summary of The Sea King
Prince Fire Flash excelled in fishing and Prince Fire Fade excelled in hunting. One day the brothers tried out each others hobbies to see if they were as good as the other. They were both unsuccessful,
b
ut when Fire Fade met up with his brother, he disappointedly told him he had lost his lucky fish hook. Fire Flash demanded his fish hook to be found and returned but since it was at the bottom of the sea, Fire Fade made thousands of new fish hooks and presented them to his brother but his brother only wanted the original hook. The Lord of Sea Salt found the sad Fire Fade and led him to the King of the Sea’s palace where he was to hide in a tree until he was discovered. He was given a cup of water. Instead of drinking it, he put his royal jewel in it. The Jewel Princess fell in love with him and he got the fish hook and returned it to Fire Flash. They got married and she moved to a house by the water so she could be with her father too. She told her husband not to ever go in her house after sundown or before sunrise. One night he woke up and went to her room. He saw that she was a dragon and she found out he saw her. She left him and went back to the palace.Slide8

Certain heroes and creatures found special relevance in Japan. These characters were featured in many stories, but not all, and had certain characters associated with them.
The folktales usually involve myths (such as dragons helping people). The order of families was significant. Like a King and Queen at the beginning and then going on to talk about the Princess that is
their daughter.Slide10
Our Folktale
Princess Miyo (meaning beautiful generation) and Prince Hiroshi (meaning generous) had a son. Hiroshi had to go to lead the army into battle with his father. Their son, Jun (meaning obedient), grew up with his father away. When he turned 15, the Dark Wizard of the Sea took him and his mother from their home and to his lair. Miyo and Jun had magic jewels but to activate them, they needed Hiroshi’s gem. They were powerless. Miyo noticed the wizard being anxious and she found out that the war was over and Hiroshi was on the search for them.Slide11
Our Folktale continued…

Miyo, Hiroshi, and Jun put their jewels together and defeated the wizard. The dragon took them back to their house and they retired for the night.
