When King Tutankhamen's tomb was discovered in 1922 it gave invaluable look inside Ancient Egypt's society.It left behind valuables such as jewelry, statues, and artwork that gave a great glimpse inside life.Slide2

Ancient Egypt and its Rulers

Ancient Egypt enjoyed three long periods of stability and unity under the rule of the pharaohs.The Egyptian periods are known as the Old kingdom, Middle kingdom and new kingdom. Slide3

Ancient Egypt and its Rulers

The Old Kingdom lasted from 2700 to 200 B.C.E. and the pharaohs brought a strong central government to Ancient Egypt.

They also built great pyramids as tombs for themselves.Slide4

The Middle kingdom was a time of disunity and chaos, although during this time period Egyptians enjoyed great achievement in literature, arts, and architecture.Slide5

The last period was the New kingdom which is known as Egypt's golden age and was a time of peace and stability. The pharaohs increased trade and had huge monuments built such as the temple complex at Abu Simbel. Slide6

Pharaoh Khufu

The pharaoh Khufu ruled during the old kingdom and is best known for building the famous pyramid. Pharaoh Khufu established the pharaoh has the central authority with control over food supply and carrying out laws and declaring himself god. Slide7

Pharaoh Khufu was responsible for building the great pyramid at Giza.It was made of 2 billion stone blocks, perfectly fitted together.The Great Pyramid was a huge complex of temples, statues, monuments, and smaller tombs.Slide8

Pharaoh Senusret I: Patron of the arts

The Pharaoh Senusret ruled from about 1971 to 1926 B.C.E.The arts thrived under Senuret’s rule. A lot of Egyptian literature was written during Senuret’s rule including the “Story of Sinuhe” , which tells the story of a young man who hears a plan to kill the pharaoh.

Senusret’s greatest achievements were in religious architecture.Senusret’s greatest architectural achievement was the White Chapel, which was made from alabaster, a hard white stone. Slide10

Pharaoh Hatshepsut

During the new kingdom, the Pharaoh Hatshepsut ruled Egypt from 1473 to 1458 B.C.E.

Hatshepsut was the first female pharaoh.

Hatshepsut filled government with loyal advisers, dressed as a man, wore a fake beard, told artist to portray her as a man, and even told stories that her father was a god.

Pharaoh Ramses II

The pharaoh Ramses II ruled from 1290 to 1224 B.C.E.He is known for his military leadership and building of monuments.

He had over 100 wives and 100 children

At the age of ten he was a captain in the Egyptian army.

Ramses was also a peace maker by signing the first peace treaty with the Hittites in the world.Slide12

Ramses greatest project was the temple complex at Abu Simbel.The main temple was carved on the side of a cliff, while a smaller temple was built for his favorite wife Nefertari.

Ramses ordered more temples and monuments built than any other pharaoh in Egyptian History

Ramses mummy is one of the best preserved mummies ever found.
