1. For this project I wanted to study and test out a new art form called “agar art”. This art consists of several microbes placed onto an agar plate, a gelatinous substance inside a petri dish, in a design, The microbes will continue to grow and develop the picture, reacting to the partnered microbes that are placed side by side.Agar Art: Adaptive art that changes with its environment Microbes used in this projectRedYellowWhite#1- . I used E.coli for the background, Serratia and the spike proteins, and Micrococcus as the lipid membraneE.coli- present and appears a creamy streak as predicted.Serratia- present and appears a vivid red, as predicted.Micrococcus- present and appears yellow, as predicted.#2- I decided to cut out the E.coli , and just used Serratia and micrococcus.E.coli- unusedSerratia- Present and appears a vivid red, as predicted.Micrococcus- present, appears to be a creamy orange color.For these plates I was depicting a Covid molecule #1#2DNAse- is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolytic cleavage of phosphodiester linkages in the DNA backbone, thus degrading DNA.MSA- It encourages the growth of a group of certain bacteria while inhibiting the growth of others. This medium is important in medical laboratories as one method of distinguishing pathogenic microbes in a short period of time.MAC- is useful in isolating pathogens present in foods and coliforms in water samples.Conclusion- within this project I used multiple types of Agar plates. The base agars used were to give the primary growth of the microbes without any effect. DNAse, MSA, and MAC agar plates gave the best results allowing me to determine the different microbes. MSA determined that micrococcus is a pathogenic microbe, MAC showed that E.coli is present in food, DNAse showed that Serratia and E.coli are facultative anaerobes. *Side note: #2 had possible contamination but a second thought under further investigation showed that Micrococcus Luteus has a genetic code that evolves to adapt to environment. Could the orange color be because of that?
