Audibly quieter SilentVent Noise is a high-grade environmental pollutant. This also applies to the application of rail vehicles. But unlike with cars, it is not the engine that creates the highest sound levels at certain operating conditions, but the cooling units and especially their fans. Increasingly stricter exhaust regulations and growing out put requirements call for higher and higher cooling perfor mances; at the same time, the noise levels of the cooling systems are expected to decrease. Two requirements that fundamentally contradict each other! The SilentVent meets

them both: an axial fan with a completely new de sign combines aerodynamic characteristics with significant noise reduction. Result: the quietest Voith fan of all times.

Systems That Produce Maximum Performance Without Noise Voith cooling systems are perfectly adapted machines. The design and dimensioning of the fan regarding blade type, blade angle and number of blades, outer and hub diameter, installation position, etc. is at least as decisive for its noise levels as its integration into the overall system. With the Silent Vent, Voith offers a fan concept that meets

even the highest demands on noise reduction: its sickle-shaped blades signi cantly reduce noise emissions without impairing performance. Over more than 30 years, Voith Turbo has acquired unparal leled competencies in the development and the construction of axial fans. Any findings that were gained previously, such as stator-rotor interaction within the housing, peripheral influ ences, etc., were incorporated into the development of the SilentVent. Thanks to the application of the latest measuring methods, geometries have been dramatically improved, while incoming and outgoing

flows have been acoustically optimized. Ideal For Electric, Diesel-Electric and Diesel-Hydraulic Rail Vehicles The SilentVent is available in different sizes and suitable for electric, diesel-electric and diesel-hydraulic rail vehicles. Due to its noticeably reduced noise emissions it is recommended not only for installation into new vehicles, but also for retrofit ting and repowering existing rolling stock. Further laboratory tests have shown that the further optimization of the sickle-shaped blade geometry has resulted in an additional noise reduction of 2 – 3 dB compared to the Voith SilentVent of the first genera tion, while aerodynamics have virtually stayed the same. With the Voith SilentVent of the second generation,

noise reductions of 6 – 8 dB compared to the previous fan could be achieved, depending on the installation situation and the operating point.
