Industries wanted protection from foreign competition.

1819- Missouri is applying for statehood.

Tallmadge Amendment tried to pass. No more Slaves brought into MO. And provided for the emancipation of the children of slaves.

1820- agreement on the slavery issue in Congress

36 Parallel was the division point.
