PARENTS’ MEETINGAGENDA

At the start of any season/term, it is a good idea to have a parents’ meeting with all the parents in the club. This can be done in age group teams; it sets clear expectations for the season and helps shape the behaviour of your player’s/athlete’s parents for the benefit of the team.

 

Welcome and introductions - an opportunity to talk about:

 

The club’s mission statement, values, set up and background

Who you are and why you are involved with young peopleInformation on other key figures in club Coaching philosophy – an opportunity to talk about: Your coaching philosophy and how you like the game/sport to be played and what standards of behaviour and attitude you expect.Your desire to develop and sustain a positive learning environment for their childYour intention to develop the young players physically, psychologically and sociallyEstablish a clear policy on game time, missing training etc.  Team goals and hopes for the season/term – an opportunity to: Let parents know what you expect from them and from their children over the season/term and emphasise the positive outcomes:Every individual’s skills will improveEvery individual will have the opportunity to participate/competeEveryone involved with the club will enjoy the season/term and will have contributed to the success of the teamEvery individual will be as committed to the sport at the end of the season/term as at the start, and will want to be back next year Tip: You may ask parents about their expectations from the club and the season/term ahead.Club/parent code of conduct - an opportunity to: Discuss with the parents what they perceive their role to be over the seasonDiscuss PCS and the role they can play in developing their childBe clear on role during match/game days and when you as a coach are open for discussion i.e. after match might not be good time Distribute parents PCS leaflets Agree code of conduct to set a positive standard of behaviour

Logistics about the season - an opportunity to talk about:

 

Training schedule – what nights and where will training be?

Fixtures – when and where games/matches will be played?

Equipment needed for season – discuss player/athlete requirements and what club will providePhone lists/key contacts – distribute team contact and key club contactsTransport/faculties – club arrangements for travelling to away games/matches and facilities the club will be using Parent volunteer requirements and conduct - an opportunity to: Encourage them to take on duties which may include kit washing or refreshments, or club roles including fundraiser or secretary. It is good to discuss club support needs with parents as many parents will have specific skills that could support your club. Involving parents will also help develop a family friendly environment and a positive experience for all.Emphasise the importance of committing to the culture of PCS and of the club – every parent has a role to play – explain that parents are expected to be positive role models for the clubIf applicable, appoint a PCS Match day Touchline Champion2Rate this tool!
