PREREQUISITE: None. CREDITS: 3 semester hours HARDWARE & SOFTWARE: IBM/IBM compatible PC running Windows XP /Vista /7 Microsoft Office 2007 , Internet Explorer (The most recent version of the Firefox browser is reco mmended for accessing Blackboard 9). KNOWLEDGE: Know how to access Blackboard, upload/download, zip/unzip files, and send email with attachments . DESCRIPTION: An introduction to microcomputer hardware and software. Software includes an operating system, a user interface, networking, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets and presentation . Degree credit is not available for the Computer S cience major or minors. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this course is to introduce you the most commonly used appli cations software packages, Microsoft Word (word processor), Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet), and Microsoft PowerPoint (presentation program) on WINDOWS operating system for IBM PC or compatible micro computers.

Students should not expect to be an expert on t hese software packages, but successful completion of the course will give you a certain level of skills necessary to solve numerous problems and discuss the subjects in the following areas: - Windows operating systems - Word processing - Data analysis - Presentation ELECTRONIC RESOURCES: Check Blackboard regularly at https://bbapp1.selu.edu/ . All material will be distributed on the internet. Class notes, instructional material, and student assignments will be p osted on Blackboard. EVALUATION: Final course grades will be computed as follows: Three T ests on TIA (50 points each ) 3x50=150 Three T e sts on Office 2007 (50 points each ) 3x50=150 Nine Assignments (10 points each) 9x10=90 ____________________ ___ ____________ _________________ Total points 390 Your Final Grade = Your Total Grade/390 90 % and up - A 80 % to 89.9 % - B 70 % to 79.9 % - C 60% to 69.9% - D below 60 % - F ASSIGNMENTS : All assignments and results must be computer generated. Be sure that all required elements a re included in your submission. All assignments should be done INDEPENDTLY ; students share the score of any duplicated assignments. Send your assignments to me through Blackboard ’ s Assignments link . I will NOT accept any assignments through my personal SLU e - mail. LATE WORK: No late assignments will be accepted. All assignments are given at least one - week time to finish. You can c heck the due dates on Class Sched ule on Blackboard. TEST: Online tests are taken during the assigned period (usually available for 72 hours). Each student can take each online test 3 times. The highest grade posted in the grade book will be th

Prior arrangements must be made with the instructor, whenever possible. In the case of illness, doctor ’ s proof is needed. ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to fully p a r ticipate on line . Check Blackboard or your SLU email box in a timely manner to prevent from missing important announcement s concerning assignments, tests and due dates. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: University policy will be followed for cases involving alleged academic dishonesty. Copying part of another student’ s program or exam is CHEATING. Allowing another student to copy is also CHEATING.
