What are Assistive Technologies There are many definitions of assistive technology[AT]An umbrella term which is made up of assistive, adaptive, rehabilitative technologies and related services which are specifically made or adapted to serve as technical assistance for students and professionals such as special educators and other service providers. Legal definition of Assisitve Technologies IDEA (2004)

What are Assisitve Technologies The Individual with Disabilities Educational Act IDEA 2004, defines AT Assistive technology is defined as "an item or piece of equipment or product system or service either acquired commercially, off the shelf, modified, or customized and used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capability for individual with disabilities"

Meaning of Assistive Devices Assistive devices are devices a whose primary purpose is to maintain or improve an individual’s functioning and independence to facilitate participation and to enhance overall well-being.Examples of assistive devices and technologies include wheelchairs, prostheses, hearings aids, visual aids, and specialised computer software.

Importance of Assistive TeachnologiesIt facilitates inclusion of PWDs and achieving the SDG goals of 2030ATs, such as wheelchairs, artificial limbs, spectacles, hearing aids, braille frame, talking calculator and accessible information communication technology (ICT), have been developed to maintain or improve the functioning and independence of people with impairments.It enable PWDs to live healthy, productive, independent, and dignified lives, and to participate in education, the labour market and civic life
