Application to Request Visa SponsorshipPreliminary application is at

https://

noncredit.temple.edu/portal/applications/applicationProfile.do?method=loadApplicationIndex&applicationProfileId=17488821

This preliminary application triages the international applicant. Based on how they answer these questions, next steps are determined.

For J-1 sponsorship, it is required that the applicant prove s/he meets the English proficiency requirement OR s/he must sign up for and pass the Temple University Test of English Proficiency (TUTEP)Slide7

Application to Request Visa Sponsorship

TUTEP Process

ON THE DAY OF your Skype interview, please be sure that your microphone and speakers are set properly. Please also ensure you have a strong/good internet connection and are in a quiet place. We will ask that you scan the room with your video camera to ensure that you are ALONE. If you are not alone, we will reschedule your interview. (IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CHEATING: If you are suspected of cheating, the interview will be suspended. You will need to wait two months to retest.)

The interviewer will call/Skype you within 5 minutes of your interview start time.

The interview will begin with “identification verification” questions (which will not be rated).

Please have the following information ready prior to the start of your interview.

Photo Identification in English such as a passport, prior US visa stamp,

etc

Your "X" Number from

DestinyOne

The interview will proceed with 2 “warm-up” questions (which will not be rated).

The interview will continue with rated questions 1 – 12.

You should log back into the

DestinyOne

system in approximately 3 business days to obtain your score.Slide8

Application to Request Visa SponsorshipIf the person meets the English proficiency requirement  or has passed the TUTEP, then ISSS will add the person to your department's portal.

NOTE: NOTE: If the person fails the TUTEP a hold will be placed on their account and they will not be able to retest for a minimum of two months, depending on the score. Additional information is available

at

www.temple.edu/isss/international/EnglishProficiency.htm

If the applicant will be sponsored for an H-1B, ISSS will add the person to your department’s portal.

If a scholar receives a score of 4.0 - 6.0, s/he has passed the test and the process can continueSlide9

Logging in to your Department Portalhttps://www.temple.edu/isss/international/DepartmentPortal.htm

You will go to your portal that applies to you after you review the list at ISSS

Click the drop down box for “staff”

Then, press Log On and type your normal

accessnet

user name and password

Note: if you are TUHS and do not have an

accessnet

, we can still create a login for you for this site. You will be logging in with “contact” type and ISSS will provide a user name and password.

Permissions to the Department Portals are managed by ISSS, and if you need staff added, let them know.

If staff leave Temple University or change jobs, you must report that to ISSS so that those permissions can be removed to your portal.Slide10

Reviewing your list of membersAfter logging in to your department portal, you will see a list of members. These are the persons who have gone through the preliminary app and have been added to your department.

You can sponsor applications for any of the members in your list. Slide11

If there is any question about which application is appropriate, ask before you start an application. Each application requires a large amount of data collection to be submitted, and it can slow the process down if we start the wrong application type.

Click

Apply Now

on the application description page. You can also read the application description page for process details

Click

Start

on the person’s name that needs to have the application started for them.Slide12

J-1 and H-1B application in-depthThe application is built to be a one-stop shop for data collection. It’s a lot of information, but all of it is required to bring the individual into the USA.

A large improvement is that user-help text is embedded inside all of the pages.

The application is a shared resource between the applicant and the department.

The department pages are marked and the applicant pages are marked.

Only when ALL required information is present can either party submit the application.
