Open book exams allow for students to use multiple references, from different parts of their notes, text, etc., to gather various information to answer each test question. Professors believe that open book exams help students better organize and apply all information learned throughout a class (Rakes). Professors also belief that open book exams will limit the amount of cheating that goes on during the exam. With all relative information present at the student’s desk, there is no temptation to look at another student’s paper for the answer, since every person has the answer right next to him or her.
