The founder of modern figure skating is an American man by the name of Jackson Haines. Jackson won the first Championships of America held in in 1864. He was also known to be the first person who incorporated dance and ballet movements into regular skating. Jackson also invented a blade made for figure skating. History of Figure Skating At first, only men were allowed to compete in figure skating, but in 1902 a women entered the world figure skating championships. This was not approved of and they banned women from competing against men. In 1906, a separate event for ladies was established.

Pairs- Kirsten Moore - Towers and her partner Dylan Moscovitch from Canada placed fifth Men’s figure skating- Patrick Chan placed second, receiving a silver medal.
