You have just read de las Casas’ account of what’s going on in the Caribbean islands. Local populations have been tortured and devastated. As the King of Spain, you have the power to decide what to do about this. How will you respond?
You have 2 choices. Explain your choice in one paragraph:
1) “Stay the course.” Write a public statement explaining why this will not make you change anything and you will continue to encourage your conquistadors to colonize “The New World.”
2) “This Will Not Continue.” Write a public statement condemning the actions of the conquistadors and explain why you are going to order that they stop colonizing “The
New World.”
