Slide4IYT PROGRAMME: Booster session
The purpose of the Booster Session is to:
Identify the strategies that teachers are using to keep their IY Teacher practice alive in their schools and preschools and how to continue to use them;Cover topics that teachers would like to revisit;Teachers share resources they have made to help embed the programme into their teaching practice; andTopics are reviewed that evidence suggests teachers will find challenging (for example, Time Out, social and emotional coaching and problem solving).

Teachers, school and preschool leaders are emailed up to five weeks before the session to:
Elicit topics they would like to discussInvite teachers to bring any resources they may have developed to support their implementation of Incredible Years Teacher processes and strategies.Group Leaders check the suggested topics and record of the vignettes the group have already viewed. Group Leaders select one or two vignettes the group has not seen in order to elicit discussion.

Use prior knowledge of the teachers to prepare questions and activities that are likely to support their learning.
Review the peer and self-evaluations for clues about how to personalise the session and make it meaningful for specific teacher needs.Check the Teacher Workshop Satisfaction Questionnaire information for any issues to address.Prepare enough three-sided pyramids and piggy banks for each teacher team to have at least one.Jointly plan how we will deliver the content and the roles we will each take.

Teachers are invited to share what is working well. Participants are encouraged to refer back to their original goals.
Share any issues. Keep a record of them so that later in the day you can select one or two for use as problem-solving exercises.

Copies of three-sided pyramids are distributed. Sides are labelled:
Incredible Years strategiesBenefits for the childBenefits for the teacher Organise the teachers into groups. Get them to label their pyramid with: i) successful strategies used; ii) benefits for the child; and iii) benefits for the teacher.Teachers share these with the whole group.

Pyramids are kept on display and used throughout the day to reinforce messages about the value of building positive relationships with children
and implementing proactive strategies. These are also used to for ideas when supporting teachers to problem-solve.

Scientists” sheets to work through one of the issues the teachers brought to the session.

Share personal success stories- plans that have worked well.Support teachers to carry out additional behaviour plans on a new focus child. Encourage Teachers to keep up with proactive IY behaviour planning.

Mentors role in supporting the IY Teacher Peer Coaches and group leaders
with ideas for supporting sustainable IY Teacher practice and fidelity of programme delivery. Discussions with Group Leaders and Peer Coaches at Consultation days, Accreditation workshops/Supervision days, phone consultations, newsletters and online forums such as Massey University Wiki/HubDevelopment of ideas and resources around how Group Leaders and Peer Coaches are continuing to support the use of IYT strategies with teachers who have completed IY Teacher.

Foster Community of practice ideas
Group Leaders/Peer Coaches recommend that Teachers form groups/networks to continue to get support and stay connected. Some areas publish IY newsletter with refresher ideas (monthly/termly)share with all IY Teacher graduatesSome Group Leaders/Peer Coaches in their specialist roles facilitate IY school meetings once a term to discuss/refresh IY practice and visits etc.

IY Teacher training offered for RTLB and specialist staff in some areas has meant they can provide ongoing support and foster sustainability of IY Teacher practice through their specialist work/advice and guidance role in Early Childhood Education and schools. Offer ongoing IY support Schools encouraged to request IY systems level support and Teachers to request IY Teacher follow up support. Provide ongoing opportunities for supporting RTLB and specialists with IY team meetings refreshers.

GL/Peer Coach look at how can support Senior Managers and IY leadership in school so to foster IY-focused School . GL meet with senior management teams and with the IY Teacher participants when IY new to the school/ECE. Focus on getting Principals/Managers to understand IY and make the commitment to supporting Teachers with IYGL and Peer Coaches encourage providing IYT programmes to senior managers so they know IY Teacher principles and practices and can lead by example and help maintain IY Teacher practice

Development of school wide sustainability workshopsRTLB have been piloting providing an IY booster session/sustainability school workshop once a term involving whole school staff IY trained and working with senior school management and RTLB PB4L specialists working in the school . Working collaboratively so IY is woven into PB4L school wide practices.
