The Poem Overview William Wordsworth Know for common speech He backpacked through Europe, changed how he viewed the worldTheme/Basic SynopsisWilliam is criticizing the industrial revolution for being greedy and stepping away from nature William is very angry at the world for going against nature. So much so that he wished he was a Pagan so he could have a different view of the world.

How Does the Speaker Feel About Nature? In this poem, the speaker is obsessed with nature. The speaker gets so upset that people are consumed by consumerism and no longer still have love for nature. He feels that we don’t deserve the beauty of nature.

Mythological Allusion William writes that if he was raised a Pagan he might see Proteus or Triton rising from the sea.Proteus- Is a Greek sea god that can tell the future.Triton- Is the messenger god of the sea. Son of Poseidon
