Learning Objectives for the Day

Use proper terminology and accurate directions to guide a classmate from point A to point B.

Using

everyday language, describe how to determine whether an object has uniform motionSlide4

Please put this information on your card

Full Name (and preferred nickname)

Favorite college or high school class

Why it was your favorite class

One or two goals you have for this class (other than “to get a good grade”)

Complete the sentence: “In this class, I hope that we….”

Something that will help the class remember you

Share the

information about your partner with the class.Slide5

Your PHYS 106

notebook

The first page is the table of contents. Number it

i

.

The second page is also the table of contents. Number it ii.

Right hand pages are for entries.

Left hand pages are for attaching worksheets.

All writing MUST be in pen. Do not erase. If you made a mistake, put a single line through if it.

Blindfold navigation

This is your first Table of contents entry. The format is as follows. Always use the date and title of the first class slide.

Table of Contents

Activity title (Date)………….Page

Blindfold navigation (9/24/14)…………………..1

For this activity today, you’ll start by answering questions on your own, then discussing them with your group, then with the class.

All notes, activities, brainstorming should be done in your quadrille notebook.Slide7

Blindfold navigation

One person per group will leave the room for 10 minutes.

Brainstorm methods of directing a blindfolded person from the starting point to the ending point without touching an obstacle. Write your directions in your notebook. Your directions will be read by another group so write clearly. No other directions are allowed. Only what is in your notebook will be read to your blindfolded classmate!

Let’s guide a blindfolded classmate!

Blindfold navigation commentsSlide9

Blindfold navigation, Bruce’s observations

Different people have different foot sizes or step sizes

Directions such as “make a quarter turn” can be interpreted differently by different people

Scientists need a standard way to measure distances and time.

NIST

, National Institute of Standards and Technology

We also need to come to agreement on our understanding of motion.Slide10

for the quarter.

Most of your homework assignments will be

worksheets

from The Physics Classroom. If you miss class, you may print out the worksheet from the website and bring it the day it is due.

Homework is listed on the first slide and on the weekly assignment sheets.

Typically, the relevant reading assignments will be listed on the top of the assigned worksheet(s). They are listed as URLs such as
