Evaluation of the Cuban Missile Crisis and Foreign Policy Analysis within the Cold War Collin Abel, Damir Kovačević | Political Science Department The John F. Kennedy Administration, 1961 - 1963 It was the hope of this research process to confirm or deny the assumption that U.S. foreign policy of the mid-Twentieth Century – regarding the missile crisis itself – re-established the place of the United States as a hegemonic power in the international arena following the various incidents that tarnished American reputation, such as Soviet progress in the Space Race. The foreign policy of the Kennedy administration is assumed to have been successful in curbing the potential for threat of nuclear action between the Soviet Union and the United States. Introduction Materials and Methodology Regarding Respect for Foreign Sovereignty The Office of the Historian web page – specifically the Foreign Relations of the United States section hosts a compendium of declassified government documents of administrations containing government memoranda, meeting minutes, meeting transcriptions, records of action, and notices between foreign dignitaries. Regarding Effectiveness of Decision Making Office of the Historian The international sovereignty of Cuba is assumed to have been compromised as a result not of Soviet action, but of American action. While this was necessary to sustain enduring peace in the global community and prevent an escalation of fear and paranoia regarding the Cold War, the Kennedy administration failed to recognize the sovereignty of an independent and autonomous state operating with parameters of guidance and assistance by its political ally – the Soviet Union. Despite this, the role of the United States was justified in maintaining national and international security. Helpful Information “Address During the Cuban Missile Crisis”, John F.
