Importance of a Healthy Diet A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition. It protects you against many chronic non-communicable diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Eating a variety of foods and consuming less salt, sugars and saturated and industrially-produced trans-fats, are essential for healthy diet. Its really important that during this time of lockdown we focus on what we eat. Don’t slip out of routine! Benefits of a healthy diet Weight loss. Reduced cancer risk. Diabetes management. Heart health and stroke prevention. The health of the next generation. Strong bones and teeth. Better mood. Improved memory. So what do I need to eat? A small portion of meat or chicken Rice and pasta Fish Eggs Fruit and vegetables – 5 a day Drink plenty of water Try to avoid items with a lot of sugar. Snacks and chocolates are fine but only a reasonable amount. Remember... Keep to routine with your balanced diet. Avoid unhealthy items , as much as you can. Try to get some exercise even if its for 5 minutes! Do not stay up to the early hours and then wake up late in the afternoon. Keep to your normal sleeping hours. This will improve mood, confidence, self esteem, attitude to learning and most of all you will feel healthy and happy.
