slide5. Task 1 - In your jotter write the numbers 1 to 13. Write the correct labels next to each one. Numbers 1 to 5 are numbers whereas the rest are labels.<br>

Temperatures drop the further an area is from the equator due to the curvature of the Earth.
The Sun’s light warms the Earth, which then warms the air.
In areas closer to the poles, the sunlight is spread over a larger area so temperatures are cooler.<br>
slide7. The presence of ice and snow nearer the poles causes a higher albedo, meaning that more of the Sun’s light is reflected before it can warm the ground.<br>

In the Northern Hemisphere, south facing slopes are warmer as they receive far more sunlight than north facing ones, again warming the ground more. South facing slopes are warmer and drier North facing slopes are colder, snow lasts longer in the spring and provides water for trees<br>

Locations at a higher altitude have colder temperatures.
Temperature usually decreases by 1°C for every 100 metres in altitude. Too warm for snow lower down – it’s raining Snow near the summit of Cairn Gorm<br>

Maximum Temperature in Moshi is 26⁰C. Moshi is located 800m above sea level.
What is the temperature at the top of the mountain?? 5895m-800m= 5005m
5000m ÷ 100m/ ⁰C = 50 ⁰C
26 ⁰C -50 ⁰C = -24⁰C<br>

Oceans heat up and cool down much more slowly than land. This means that coastal locations tend to be cooler in summer and warmer in winter than places inland at the same latitude and altitude.
As well as this, ocean currents can bring cold or warm water. Moscow is at about the latitude as Edinburgh!<br>
slide13. - A warm ocean current called the North Atlantic Drift keeps Britain warmer than it should.
It’s why you can see palm trees in Ullapool and Plockton!<br>
