slide2. Background Malawi like many other Southern African countries has in recent times suffered intense effects of climate induced disasters leaving many households hopeless with high uncertainty of recovery from the shocks.
The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) through its development arm, Caritas Malawi locally referred to as the Catholic Commission for Development in Malawi (CADECOM) has been engaging with various partners at local and international levels including Caritas partners to help mobilize resources for humanitarian assistance for affected communities<br>

Current Situation While the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services DCCMS) reported that Cyclone Freddy, which reduced into a Low-Pressure Area, has completely dispersed the effects of the cyclone still prevail. Some areas practically in the north also continues to receive heavy rains which is causing flash floods
Currently, the GoM has guided on the decommissioning of camps to allow for a swift rebuilding process. We are yet to get the information on number of camps decommissioned<br>

Key Intervention by Caritas Malawi Organized the Bishop solidarity visit to some of the affected areas in Mulanje, Phalombe and Chiradzulu which was held on 18th March 2023 - he solidarity visit was also joined by other partners like the Jesuits Centre for Ecological and Development (JCED) who also contributed to the donations. The donated item in total costed about EUR 14,305 (MK16,000,000.00)
An Emergency Appeal over Baobab was made through Caritas International and was launched on 5th of April, 2023
Mobilizing and distribution of in-kind donations in all the affected dioceses (4 dioceses of Blantyre, Mangochi, Chikwawa and Zomba) and now Karonga following drought and eventually heavy rains<br>

slide6. Plan on Implementation The emergency appeal was planned to be implemented for 6 months with the first three months more focused on immediate relief and the further 3 three months on recovery interventions<br>

slide8. Immediate Needs Shelter: Family tents, plastic sheets, sleeping mats
Protection: Clothes, dignity kits,
Wash: Water purifiers, mobile toilets, buckets for water storage
Food security: Food items such as Maize, protein rich foods, nutritious blends for under-five children<br>
