Do you think this is the future? Do you use it / have you heard of this?
Do you see any snags?
What are your thoughts and ideas?
11
Types of online presence The best online presence for a business depends on several factors;-
The size and scale of the business – large businesses will have more resources to invest in its website. One that operates nationally, or globally will aim to appeal to a greater range of customers than a local business e.g. hair salon
The sector the business is in e.g
Public sector organisations – such as government departments and NHS – have websites that highlight their services
Privately owned – will aim to promote their brand and products to increase profits
Not-for-profit organisations – such as voluntary and charities will promote their cause online to increase donations and awareness
12
Task Take 5 minutes to think about and if necessary carry out some research:
Suggest 3 benefits of a local radio station having its own website
13
Did you know…. Multichannel marketing is when a business provides serval ways for a customers to buy goods, for e.g. online, in a store, over the phone and by catalogue.
Research shows that customers buy more these businesses
14
Types of activity The types of activity depends on the supplier and target customer
Business to business (B2B) – when one business deals with another
Business to consumer (B2C) – when a business sells to customers
Consumer to consumer (C2C) – when two individuals sell to each other
Can you think of some examples for these?
15
Complementing offline activities Some business use their website to complement their offline activities. Argos lets customers ‘click and collect’ form their local store
Other examples include newspapers with online editions; cinemas and train companies offering online booking services, and entertainment websites, such as Sky and the BBC
16
Task – individual – you have 15 minutes Download the latest 100 website list form IMRG or Hitwise.
Work out which businesses on the list complement their offline activities and in what way.
Find these websites by going to www.personhotlinks.co.uk and searching for this title.
17
Types of websites Passive presence – often called ‘brochureware’ this basic website provides information about products or services and contain a few links and illustrated pages. There may be photographs of staff and products, a price list, details of opening hours, customer reviews and contact details
Interactive presence – as well as information, this enables customers to interact e.g. by sending an email, using a Call Me Button or through a web chat. It may invite online transactions or offer an online service such as banking.
Interactive customisation – this enables users to customise products online. At Moonpig you can design your own greetings card and on digital image processing sites like Bonusprint you can build your own phot album
