Every time it is retold Mā Zāla Qalbī Yakhfiqu
Lammā Tu`ādu Fuṣūluhā<br>

مـا زال فِـكْـري يَـطْـرَبُ لِـسَـمـاعِـهـا يـسـتـغــرِبُ My mind still sways with awe
Surprised each time I hear it Mā Zāla Fikrī Yaṭrabu
liSamā`ihā Yastaghribu<br>

هـذي الـحـكـايـةُ أَغْـــرَبُ فـي الـبـالِ ظـلَّ فـضـولُها This tale appears the strangest
Its mystery stayed in my mind HaẓiL Ḥikāyatu ‘Aghrabu

اللهُ يـكــشــفُ قَــلْـبَــهُ لـلـكـلِّ يَعْـرِضُ حُـبَّـهُ God reveals His own heart
He shows His love to everybody ‘Allāhu Yakshifu Qalbahu
liL Kulli Ya`riḍu Ḥubbahu<br>

لـذا شَـهِــدْنـا صـلْـبَـهُ فَـمِـنَ الـمُـحـالِ أُفـولُـها That is why we witnessed His crucifixion
It is impossible for its glory to fade Liẓā Shahidnā Ṣalbahu
faMinaL Muḥāli ‘Ufūluhā<br>

صِــرنــا لــهُ أبْــنـاءَهُ لِـذا نـعـيـشُ سـخـاءَهُ We became His children
That’s why we live in His abundance Ṣirnā Lahu ‘Abna’ahu
Liẓā Na`īshu Sakhā’ahu<br>

لـنا أتـاحَ سـمـاءَه بـدمِ الـمـسـيـحِ دخـولُها He opened Heaven for us
Through Christ’s blood Lanā ‘Atāḥa Samā’ahu
biDamiL Massīḥi Dukhūluha<br>

مـهـمـا تَـأمَّـلَ شـاعِـرُ أو فَـيْـلَـسُـوفٌ قــادِرُ No matter how deeply a poet may ponder
Or a good philosopher wonder Mahmā Ta’ammala Shā`iru
‘Aw Faylasūfon Qādiru<br>

أو واعِــظٌ مُـتَـفَـكِّــرُ مُـتَـجَّـدِّدٌ مـدلـولُـهـا Or a preacher meditating and researching
Its significance is always renewing ‘Aw Wā`iẓon Mutafakkiru
Mutajaddidon Madlūluhā<br>

مـا مِـن مَـثِـيـلٍ يُـعْـرَفُ أو مِـنْ بـعـيـدٍ يـوصَـفُ No match has ever been found
No words can describe it Mā Min Mathīlin Yu`rafu
‘Aw Min Ba`īdin Yūṣafu<br>

هـذي الـفَـرادَةُ تَـكْـشِـفُ أنَّ الـسـمـاءَ أُصـولُـهـا This uniqueness only shows
That its origins is Heaven itself HaẓīL Farādatu Takshifu
‘Anna Ssamā’a ‘Uṣūluhā<br>
