Why are some words capitalized in our writing? We use capital letters for words that are special in some way. Special people, places, and things

Always use a capital letter to begin: the first word of a sentence: T oday is the first day of school. the first word of a quotation: She said, “ Y esterday was fun!” the names of days, months and holidays: The fourth T hursday in N ovember is T hanksgiving. people’s first and last names S amantha L opez

More special words that always need capitals the greeting and closing in a letter: D ear Grandma, L ove, Sherry People’s initials and titles: M rs. F ox, M r. D erpic , D r. S . C . L ee, P res.
