Camp Casey Guiding Principles

Everybody regardless of background should be treated equally and equitably

All participants should be engaged as much are they are

able

Respect your environment (including the dorms!), please don’t

litterTreat others the way they want to be treated

Grow by sharing your thoughts and feelings – value each other’s

opinions

Be prepared to learn, and ask questions

Accommodations

Girls: Company Quarter H (double rooms on lower and upper

level)

Company Quarter A (double rooms on upper)

Either Company Quarters D or E (Open bunk)

You can pick roommates today (please ensure choices are mutual)

Boys: Company Quarter G (bunks for 24 lower level. Bunks for 28 on upper level)

Gender Neutral: Company Quarter A (double rooms on the lower level!)

Packing List: What to Bring

Space is limited! Please pack smart and light!

We only have room for small suitcases.

Sleeping bag and/or sheets and blanket, pillow (no extra bedding provided) There will be a $10.00 charge if you do not bring your own bedding.

Toiletries: washcloth, shampoo, soap, bath towel, tooth brush, etc.

Warm clothing (It will be cold in the evening)

2 pairs of sturdy shoes (can bring flip flops for the shower)

The Ropes Course requires closed-toe, sturdy shoes and the Camp has uneven ground. Sturdy shoes will reduce the chance of accidents (i.e. Sneakers, tennis shoes, running shoes)

Waterproof jacket

Hats, gloves, scarves (we will provide a hooded sweatshirt)

Swimsuit and extra towel (if you plan to swim)

Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat

Medication (If you require any)

Flashlight

You can bring your own snacks. If you have a special diet, this is encouraged.

There will be no opportunities to buy supplies once we leave Bellevue College. Please make sure to pack any supplies you will need.Slide8

Tuesday, June 21 (Leave for Camp Casey)

Please arrive at the Bellevue College R Building at 7:15 AM sharp on Tuesday, June 21. We will begin check in immediately and will need to leave on time in order to catch the ferry.

Parking

If you are planning on leaving a car on campus while you are at Camp Casey please park in

Parking Lot D-1

, behind the R building. Please make sure you register your car with Stephanie Rowe.Slide11

Check In!

There will be

four steps

to the check in

.

Get colored tags, put on luggage and into U-haul

Go

to R building west

lobby (where café is located)

and get name

tags

Go to Nora Lance who will be in the hallway for your number and transportation info

Check

in with Color Team Leaders: sports bag with

folder,

water

bottle, and a snack. (Second floor of the R building – look for your color.)

Once

you have finished these steps,

stay in the room and finish your assignment and follow your team leaders’ instructions. DO

NOT CHANGE BUS NUMBERS Slide12

Transportation to Camp Casey

We will have the following transportation

Two 55 seat buses

Three ten passenger vans

One Mini-Van

One

U-haul

Please notify Student Programs Staff if you experience Motion Sickness. We can help seat you

One Ferry Ride

(15-20

minutes, not long enough to get a snack, but just enough to use the restroom)Slide13

Meals and Food

We have food preferences and allergies of all kinds

We have worked to accommodate all preferences

Please only eat the meals designated by your preference

We are accommodating students who are fasting

You are encouraged to bring your own snacks if you have special dietary needs. There is no refrigeration. Bring non-perishables

There are no water fountains

You will get a Camp Casey water bottle

Activities

We will have camp fires, make s’more, and have fun. We will also play games around the camp fire

, use the gym, see movies, etc.

Team Spirit

The spirit stick is given to a color team who exhibits the most enthusiasm and spirit. The stick rotates throughout the day

Each

color team

team cheer by breakfast

on Wednesday.

The first

team to assemble at

any meeting

Challenge Course

Wednesday, June 22, we will going to a Challenge Course

The Challenge Course will be facilitated by a group called

Synergo

.

The day is split in two:

- Team building challenges at Camp Casey

- Team building challenges at the ropes courseSlide17

Leadership Awareness

Camp Casey is a leadership retreat

This experience will be challenging, but these experiences help you become a better leader.

During Camp Casey you will develop yourself, learn about social justice and cultural competency, develop your leadership toolkit, and build the Bellevue College community!

We

began planning for Camp Casey in July (lessons learned)

Show respect to all participants, staff and nature

Clean up your own mess; leave no trace

Be pleasant to others and refrain from using foul language

Refrain

Do not enter another person’s room without permission

Quiet time is from 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

No one of the opposite sex allowed in your room after 11:00 p.m

Camp Casey is public grounds, and we will be sharing the camp with other groups

If you get sick, let your mentors know!

Return to Campus, Friday, June 24

We will have a full day at Camp Casey on Friday

We are aiming to leave at 5:00pm.

If we leave at 5:00pm, we will be back at Bellevue College around 7:45pm.

Please call your rides as we approach Bellevue College

We will need volunteers for unpacking for Camp CaseySlide21

If You Want To Cancel

Our waitlist is long, and participants are eager

Please let us know earlier rather than later if you need to withdraw from Camp CaseySlide22
