What is the LRT on the Green Foundation?

4

The LRT on the Green Foundation began as a way to unite community stakeholders to accelerate the construction of Calgary’s Green Line LRT.

The idea of the Foundation began in early 2014, at a meeting of community partners who endorsed the idea.

The Foundation received its official, non-profit incorporation in May 2014 and is run by a

board of seven Directors that include representatives from both north and south Calgary.

The main focus of the Foundation is to advocate for the need for the Green Line

LRT.

COMMUNITY CONFERENCE

Green Line Community Stakeholder Questionnaires:

Questionnaires were sent out to all 29 community partners in mid August

A submission deadline of Sept 9, 2015 was set

The participation rate for the questionnaires was 52%

15 returned completed questionnaires2 deferred completing the questionnaire until the CA Boards could review it however these questionnaires were not received

1 provided a summary in lieu as the CA Board was not able to meet prior to the deadline

1 submitted information directly to Calgary Transit

A report that summarized the responses of the questionnaires was submitted to Calgary Transit on Sept 11, 2015

Slide13

13

COMMUNITY CONFERENCE

So What Did The Green Line Community

Stakeholder Questionnaires Say?

Slide14

14

STATE OF THE NATION

Six questions were posed by the questionnaires:

What types of improvements will the Green Line bring to your community?

What are some community goals that you hope the construction of the Green Line will help accomplish? What are some concerns regarding having LRT in your community and what policies do you think will help mitigate them?

What barriers in your community exist amongst different age groups that might deter them from using transit?

What incentives might increase the attractiveness of transit use in your community?

How has the City of Calgary’s engagement process been regarding the Green Line?

Slide15

15

STATE OF THE NATION

Each completed questionnaire was included in the back of the report.

Common themes in answers to each question were summarized.

To better categorize the information, common themes were further broken down to identify where the commonality was trending between five different categories:

Green Line N Region

Green Line Centre City RegionGreen Line SE RegionSuburban Community

Established Community

Slide16

16

STATE OF THE NATION

Where does the State of the Nation report take us?

Your voice has been heard!

The report was delivered to Calgary Transit staff on Sept 11, 2015

The hopes, concerns, goals and ideas of

15

different community groups

, representing neighbourhoods from all along the Green Line’s

40 km

length

and speaking on behalf of nearly

300,000 Calgarians

will help shape the conversation in upcoming community engagement

Slide17

17

STATE OF THE NATION

Where does the State of the Nation report take us?

Through our advocacy efforts, we will work towards ensuring that your community goals and community concerns are addressed through the city’s public engagement efforts.

Through our community outreach, we will work towards facilitating partnerships between community groups that share common goals and concerns in regard to the Green Line.

We will use the level of passion shown by the communities to advocate for funding to allow construction to proceed on the entire Green Line LRT.

Slide18

STATE OF THE NATION

Where does the State of the Nation report take us?

Green Line communities can now take advantage of an unprecedented opportunity!

Although the communities aren’t all geographically linked, the Green Line project links everyone together.

Information is now available to allow

29 different community groups to identify areas of mutual interest and work together to build a better Calgary.

Tonight’s networking session at the end of the Conference is the perfect time to get started!
