REMEMBER…Work Triangle

Is the route from the center of the sink,

to the center of the range, to

the

center of the refrigerator and back to the center of the

sink. All this should measure 12-26 feetSmaller work triangles will save steps. For safety reasons there should be no cross traffic. Cross traffic can cause spills and other accidents.Draw this in on your floor plans from yesterdaySlide4

There are 6 different Kitchen Shapes

Corridor/Gallery

L-Shape

One Wall

U-Shape

IslandPeninsulaSlide5

Corridor/Gallery Kitchen

A galley kitchen consists of work space on two opposing walls. There is a single traffic lane between them. There is an opening on one or both ends

.

Great for small kitchens.Slide6

L-Shape Kitchen

The L-shaped kitchen layout is a standard design for home kitchens.

To achieve a proper L-shaped design, the kitchen must be built at a corner where two walls form a perpendicular angle and where one wall is

about twice

the length of the other.Slide7

One Wall Kitchen

This is the most

economical.

In a one wall kitchen all kitchen appliances and cupboard are located along one wall.Slide8

U-Shape Kitchen

The most efficient

kitchen

because everything is close and is ideal for a 1 person kitchen. Problems arise when there are multiple people in the kitchen and there may not be enough room for all appliancesSlide9

Island Kitchen

Island kitchen designs consist of an extra “island” placed somewhere in the kitchen to add extra counter space, storage, and sometimes houses appliances.Slide10

Peninsula Kitchen

A peninsula is basically a connected island, converting an

L-shaped kitchen

layout into a horseshoe or U-shape. In many kitchens that have this layout,

the peninsula

serves as a room divider that separates the kitchen from a dining or living room area, as seen in this designSlide11

Kitchen Assignment

Design and Render 1 floor plan of each kitchen discussed in class (Peninsula, Island, U Shape, One Wall, L Shape, Corridor/Gallery)

6 FLOOR PLANS TOTAL

There is no limit on the size just remember proper distance for circulation paths (3-4 feet) and floor plan scaling is ¼”=1 ft. A decent size kitchen is around 300

sq

feet. For each kitchen floor plan, place all relevant floor plan symbols on your design and label the WORK TRIANGLEIf you have time you may color your floor plansUSE PENCIL FIRST AND OUTLINE IN SHARPIE AFTER YOU ARE COMPLETELY DONE. YOU CAN ERASE PENCIL BUT YOU CAN’T ERASE PERMANENT MARKER 

Cut out and glue into your smash book labeling each kitchen in architectural lettering.
