English 10 - 10/17/16 Write about your weekend. How do you fix a tuba? Circumlocution – talking around a subject rather than getting to the point. Usually due to embarrassment . Goals – Watch Cool Hand Luke and answer Study Questions. Homework – Do a Wikipedia search for “prison labor camps in the south.” be prepared to talk about it Wednesday. Don’t forget to study Vocabulary 7 for quiz Friday.

English 10 - 10/18/16 I have gained this by philosophy: that I do without being commanded what others do only from fear of the law. Aristotle. Why did the toilet paper roll down the hill? Cledonism – using circumlocution to avoid using certain words that are believed to be unlucky; e.g. “twelve, twelve plus one, fourteen ….” Goals – Continue watching Cool Hand Luke and answering study questions. Homework – Write a brief paragraph about why you follow rules.

English 10 - 10/19/16 “Sometimes nothing is a real cool hand.” What does Luke mean by that? What do “Alexander the Great” and “Winnie the Pooh” have in common?
