Objective and agenda Order rational numbers on a number line. Tell me all you can Explain clothes line math Practice in groups Big Ideas What about negative numbers?

Tell me all you can about… -2.5

Clothesline math Landmark numbers Order integers

Group practice I will give you groups that you will work with to place your fractions. Pin up your clothesline between two chairs. Each person will get a number to place on the clothesline. Green set then blue set. Decide which landmark numbers you need to place on your number line. Each person will place their numbers on the number line and explain why the number is placed as it is. Use the extra yellow cards and pin them with blue tape to explain. What is the “big idea” behind how to place these fractions? How could you transfer that idea to another set?

Big ideas What was the big idea behind the green set of cards? How would you place 10/11, 10/102, 10/23 using your rule? What was the big idea behind the blue set of cards? How would you use your rule to place 4/7, 14/27, 51/101?

What about negative numbers? How would you place the following? -3/4 -1/2 -5/8 -1/4

Exit slip Explain where you would place 7/8 and 7/9 on a number line and why.
