parades, fireworks and dragons in Chinatown.- Saint Patrick’s Day (17 March):

it's party time for the Irish New York. Throngs of beer lovers come out to watch the kilts and pipers and colourful floats parade down Fifth Avenue. - Fleet Week (end May): a gathering of seamen from some fifteen countries. On the occasion, some ships are open to the public. - Independence Day (4 July): commemorated with fireworks and fanfares.

- Fringe Festival (mid August): a theatre festival presenting shows of all kinds from companies from around the world.- Marathon (end October-early November) - Thanksgiving (end November): Grand parade from Central Park to Macy’s, the famous department store. Truly spectacular and colourful: floats, fanfares, dragons, etc.- New Year's Eve: the wildest party is at Times Square, where the crowd awaits the annual Waterford crystal ball drop.

This area covers Wall Street, the 9/11 memorial and the statue of Liberty. Very busy in the daytime and quieter in the evening. North of this area is Tribeca, a very lively neighbourhood with beautiful shops, restaurants and bars. ChinatownOne of Manhattan's busiest neighbourhoods. It's like an immense market with innumerable street vendors and small restaurants offering all kinds of culinary specialities (soup dumplings, snails, frogs, etc.). Do not miss it!

Lower East Side A mix of the new and the old that has attracted a good number of inexpensive restaurants. People of very different styles rub shoulders in this neighbourhood, which is much appreciated for its lively nightlife.

Soho
