Lesson 1.7 Multiplying and Dividing Integers: Transcript
Essential Question How do we multiply integers How do we divide integers Multiplying Integers The product of two integers with the same sign is positive The product of two integers with different sign is negative. adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. If the signs of both numbers are alike, (both positive or both negative) add the two numbers and keep the same sign as in the original problem.. Example: -4 + -8 = -12. Students who cannot easily memorize rules tend to not do as well in math.. Students who can memorize rules tend to do better in math, but do not always understand HOW or Why the math works. . What are some rules that we teach students?. Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing Integers. Vocabulary. Integer- whole numbers and their opposites. Absolute value- A number’s distance from zero on a number line. Additive Inverse- The opposite of any number, x, is –x, and their sum is zero. Unit 5.7. Pages 250-253. . . 2.. 3.. 4.. 6. 50. 30. 120 . Warm Up . Problems. Write each fraction in simplest form.. What is ½ of 12. . What is ½ of 100. What is ¼ of 120. What is ¼ of 480. 3/23/17. How do we multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers?. How do we use models to multiply and divide fractions?. How do we estimate products and quotients of fractions?. Today We’ll Discuss. Made Easy!. My momma. says I should “change” my shirt before she “flips” her lid!. © . Mike’s Math Mall. Using…. CCSS 5NBT.B.7. Same!. Change!. Flip!. Because with a little change to a division of fractions’ problem, you’ll be right back to multiplying!. TeacherTwins©2014. Warm Up. Add or subtract.. 1). . 2). . 3). . 4). . 5). Explain how to change the following problem to an addition problem and solve. . . 6. 11. -6. -11. Leave, change , opposite 9+ 9 = 18. Adding Integers. The sum of two positive integers is always positive. 5 4=9.. The sum of two negative integers is always negative. -5 (-3)= -8.. The sum of a positive integer and a negative integer is sometimes positive, sometimes negative and sometimes zero.. 6.2.1 Multiplying Fractions. 6.2.2 Dividing Fractions. 6.2.3 Dividing Mixed Numbers. Multiplying Fractions. Step #1. : Multiply across the . top. of both fractions. Step #2. : Multiply across the . bottom. We are learning to divide . fractions . using related multiplication.. 2. When would you divide fractions?. One example is when you are trying to figure out how many episodes of your favorite ½ hour tv program you could watch in the 1 ½ hrs you have available. . . Can you name the parts of a fraction?. ?. ?. numerator. denominator. What sort of fractions / numbers are these:. . . . ?. ?. ?. p. roper fraction. improper fraction. m. ixed number. Multiplying Fractions. 1. Remember that fractions are parts of a whole or a part of a set of objects. For example, if a bag of apples contains 10 apples and three of the apples are used to make apple tarts, three-tenths, 3/10, of the apples have been used and seven-tenths, 7/10, of the original set of 10 apples remain. . . Can you name the parts of a fraction?. ?. ?. numerator. denominator. What sort of fractions / numbers are these:. . . . ?. ?. ?. p. roper fraction. improper fraction. m. ixed number. Multiplying Fractions. Multiplying and Dividing Fractions This session will be recorded for learning purposes. Learning purposes include: a lesson review for students who are absent, students who want to review for a test, etc.
