Rain notes for Teacher
“Rain
makes the grass green
and your
garden grow.
When the air holds lots of water droplets, clouds form. If a lot of water droplets gather in the clouds, the clouds become heavy. Gravity causes the water droplets to fall as rain.
Rain
happens in two ways usually: as a drizzle or a shower. A drizzle is a slow, light rain that can go on for hours. A shower is a fast, heavy rain that lasts just a short while.
Raindrops fall at a speed of 7 to
18 mph. In wind, they might fall much faster

Sleet notes for Teacher
“Sleet
is typically frozen raindrops
which
happen
when rain that is formed in warm air falls through colder air hence causing it to freeze
.
Sleet may refer to a mixture of rain and snow, which is formed when snow melts as it reaches the ground. It may also refer to ice pellets. These are formed when ice melts and then refreezes before it reaches the ground
.
The
temperature is not quite cold enough to create snowflakes but it is too cold to simply rain water
.”Slide8
Snow notes for Teachers
“Snow
occurs when water vapors in the air freeze before they can turn into water. This happens
when the temperature in the clouds is very cold. Snowflakes are made up of crystals
of ice that have formed around bits of dirt in the air. The snowflakes start out very small and grow. Each snowflake is different and might contain up too 200 crystals.
A
blizzard happens when cold air sits near the
Earths surface, while warm air sits above it. This mix of air combined with lots of moisture makes a blizzard. Blizzards bring snow, strong winds and cold temperatures.
They can last for several days.”Slide9
Hail notes for Teachers
Hail forms in a complex dance between moisture and wind. Deep within cumulonimbus clouds ice crystals form and begin to fall towards the Earth’s surface. As this happens, wind gusts pick up the ice crystals, pushing them back up high into the clouds. As they begin to again fall down, they continue growing in size.
Again, a wind gust might catch the growing hail stones, pushing them back up high into the clouds. This process may be repeated several more times until the hail stones become so large that they
are too heavy for the wind to carry, causing them to fall towards the Earth.
Most
hailstones measure between 5 millimeters and 15 centimeters in diameter, and can be round or jagged.
Hailstones
are not frozen raindrops.
Hail
actually falls as a
solid. Hailstones
can cause extreme damage to buildings, vehicles, and crops.
