I PICKED MY TOPIC…NOW WHAT?
Creating realistic fiction is MUCH MORE then just picking a topic. Authors work very hard to “create the story world”.
Fiction authors don’t just go from choosing a seed idea to writing a draft.
They think deeply about their topic, write a summary of their ideas, revise their thoughts, and
plan
for the upcoming story.
This includes choosing a strong setting, and developing specific traits about their characters.Slide3
Developing a character
Today we will work to:
Create a character that your readers can identify with, cheer for, cry for, feel an emotional connection with,
laugh at, be angry with, etc.
Think about your favorite realistic fiction books…
The author worked very hard throughout the book to describe the character well. This was done through physical descriptions, character thoughts, actions, interactions with others, etc.Slide4
